I really thought Jake the Snake would have been perfect. He had the motivation chase Austin retired him/ made his career off of that Promo. Perfect Revenge.

U couldn’t have it be a new guy, cuz then they would be booked over Taker.

So it had to be an OG. He could have killed it in a Promo/Mgmt position. DDTed Austin a few times. Then been gone. Lil 6 month program woulda been cool.

But... DRUGS...:yeshrug:

There was a rumor about Christopher fukking Daniels cuz of his gothic gimmick

Imagine that

The crowd would be dead as fukk most likely

Bruce Prichard On Who Was Slated To Be 'The Higher Power' And Why It Was Nixed, Worst Gimmick, More - WrestlingInc.com

Rather, Christopher Daniels was Vince Russo's pick to be The Higher Power; however, McMahon nixed those plans because he thought Daniels was too small for the role.

"The original idea was 'The Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels. And then Vince saw him and said, 'absolutely not'. [McMahon did not like Daniels'] size. [He] just didn't see it." Prichard continued, "Chris was working out in California and Chris was working indies and different things an I was a big fan of Chris Daniels too at the time. I liked the 'Fallen Angel' gimmick and I want to say we had Chris under a developmental deal for a little while. [He] just didn't see it. He just looked at him and he didn't see it. He was dead from the get-go."

Prichard suggested that Daniels' height was the primary problem, as being "juiced to the gills" as podcast co-host Conrad Thompson put it, would not have changed McMahon's opinion.

"Height, height, height, and again, first impressions of Vince looking at him. And I don't know where Vince saw him or what the presentation was at all, but all of a sudden, it was, 'nope, not him - don't have anything for him.'"

I was ten at the time and I remember being disappointed. In retrospect I guess that it was an ok angle but at the time when people were jumping left and right it had to be a huge signing or unexpected turn to be considered a great surprise angle and Vinces turn just felt lackluster.

Vince being the Higher Power was lame but it made sense

Rikishi being the one that hit Austin with the car was legit stupid as fukk tho
Rikishi being a mercenary who did it to move up the card or for money was simply but made sense. Go read this and tell me Vince being revealed as the higher power made sense. This was a clear example of them starting an angle without even the slightest idea of how they wanted to conclude it.

Induction: The Greater Power – Aw, son of a…

I don't need to read that shyt breh. Vince and Austin were always going at each other during that time so just off of that alone it made sense

At the time i hated it cuz, as i felt it kind of diminished taker somewhat. Here is this bad azz supernatural force from the depths of hell wreaking havoc with his cliq. But theres more he aint even the guy calling the shots:krs:was everyones expression, cuz that is so ominous. But then its revealed as vince and i am like :dame:ahhh hes just a business man i thought this higher power was suppose to be like Satan. Why is undertaker taking orders from vince this is wack.

But as we know he went on to have several dope storylines with that character so...

This. I was 9 at the time and thought the higher power was legit some evil demon or something so I was confused as to why folks were guessing it was a real person.

I was 11 and don’t remember feeling any type of way. Like someone else said, with the Austin vs McMahon feud it didn’t surprise me. I also wasn’t on the internet until later that year so I had no idea about the rumors. Hell this thread is the first time I heard Jake the Snake brought up.
