The very first episode kills this argument because Will accused Uncle Phil of being a sellout and he corrects him by saying he remembers where he came from. Will might have read The Autobiography of Malcolm X and had his poster on the wall, but Uncle Phil heard the brother speak. He read every word he wrote.

I don't get the criticism behind the Banks being Republicans. The story doesn't work without it. When the show starts, the Banks kids are either spoiled and/or sheltered. Uncle Phil is a lot more strict and concerned with his image. At the same time, Will is reckless, irresponsible, and needs to be straightened out. Everybody learns from each other and gets exposed to the other side of the world, the other side of life.

Calling the Banks c00ns invalidates everything that show was about.
