that's what I don't like about that movie (I never read the book). it perpetuates this idea that outside sources were responsible for the important steps of our evolution. obviously it's science fiction, and possibly just symbolism, but I'm not fond of popularizing that concept

It's not that far fetched to believe outside influences interfered with early humans.

You got similar looking gods being worshipped around the world, pyramids on multiple continents...

How would that have been possible any other way

The most high distributed the knowledge he used to create the universe, man, energy, all matter and the system of laws which govern it

We as a human race have in some ways regressed, we live in an orderly universe governed by the law of compensations often mentioned by philosophers the wild card is the Lord the most high who often intercedes in behalf of the righteous to confound reason and probability.

Truth I tell you we don't need technology all we need is mind and heart tuned to serving each other as brothers in dedication to the most high creator.

The egytians had technology beyond today and could travel through time and space, all humans are capable of transcending mater and travelling through the cosmos simply by looking within and tuning the mind, time does not exist when we leave 4D. Ego is the fall of man no need to think we are cleverer than we actually are, true value is to seek wisdom and truth.
