lol, I know. I just feel these things give people something to The latch onto when they're busy denying science. I've been on these forums long enough to see things like "it's just like in the Matrix" thrown around way too much

2001 is one of my favorite movies. but if I have to pick something I don't like about it, that would be it. honestly a lot of that has to do with how I perceive people's current attitudes about science right now. I guess ultimately my issue isn't with these stories, just with the stupid people who don't understand that it's fiction. look at this thread. someone could see your post and think you're half-way serious about it. but that's just Poe's Law I guess...

The Matrix is the go-to movie reference for scientifically-illiterate conspiracy theorists.

that's what I don't like about that movie (I never read the book). it perpetuates this idea that outside sources were responsible for the important steps of our evolution. obviously it's science fiction, and possibly just symbolism, but I'm not fond of popularizing that concept
dont act like we didnt get help. you think a punch of monkeys can build pyramids and shyt.

that's funny the opening bothered me too but more because it seemed to suggest that we weren't violent until there was some technological or outside change i.e. noble savage

but yeah you have to take the work on its own merits rather than injecting it into some other aspect of your thinking I think.. like we have to start with figuring out what the scene means in the movie first rather than seeing it against a backdrop of our theories

Man, I know what you guys mean but don't shyt on The Matrix. It provides a much needed adaption and renovation of key philosophical ideas/stories/writings.

I reference it because someone might know The Matrix and not necessarily be aware of Plato's Allegory of the Cave.

yeah, 2001 is fairly cryptic, so it is open to various interpretations. the monolith seems like it's just a 'place holder' for various concepts

I've always interpreted that way. It's a quick way to symbolize and summarize a lot of concepts.

Look up the Stoned ape theory and watch some videos on google. All psychedelics as well as cannabis is included in this to me.
Terence McKenna - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"In his book Food of the Gods,[21] McKenna proposed that the transformation from humans' early ancestors Homo erectus to the species Homo sapiens mainly had to do with the addition of the mushroom Psilocybe cubensis in its diet - an event which according to his theory took place in about 100,000 BC (this is when he believed that the species diverged from the Homo genus). He based his theory on the main effects, or alleged effects, produced by the mushroom. One of the effects that comes about from the ingestion of low doses, which agrees with one of scientist Roland Fischer's findings from the late 1960s-early 1970s,[22] is it significantly improves the visual acuity of humans - so theoretically, of other human-like mammals too. According to McKenna, this effect would have definitely proven to be of evolutionary advantage to humans' omnivorous hunter-gatherer ancestors that would have stumbled upon it "accidentally"; as it would make it easier for them to hunt.

In higher doses, McKenna claims, the mushroom acts as a sexual stimulator, which would make it even more beneficial evolutionarily, as it would result in more offspring. At even higher doses, the mushroom would have acted to "dissolve boundaries", which would have promoted community-bonding and group sexual activities-that would result in a mixing of genes and therefore greater genetic diversity. Generally McKenna believed that the periodic ingestion of the mushroom would have acted to dissolve the ego in humans before it ever got the chance to grow in destructive proportions. In this context, he likened the ego to a cancerous tumor that can grow uncontrollable and become destructive to its host. In his own words:

Wherever and whenever the ego function began to form, it was akin to a cancerous tumor or a blockage in the energy of the psyche. The use of psychedelic plants in a context of shamanic initiation dissolved-as it dissolves today-the knotted structure of the ego into undifferentiated feeling, what Eastern philosophy calls the Tao.
—Terence McKenna, Food of the Gods"

The most high distributed the knowledge he used to create the universe, man, energy, all matter and the system of laws which govern it

We as a human race have in some ways regressed, we live in an orderly universe governed by the law of compensations often mentioned by philosophers the wild card is the Lord the most high who often intercedes in behalf of the righteous to confound reason and probability.

Truth I tell you we don't need technology all we need is mind and heart tuned to serving each other as brothers in dedication to the most high creator.

The egytians had technology beyond today and could travel through time and space, all humans are capable of transcending mater and travelling through the cosmos simply by looking within and tuning the mind, time does not exist when we leave 4D. Ego is the fall of man no need to think we are cleverer than we actually are, true value is to seek wisdom and truth.

"all I know is that I know nothing"
