After this third album his shyt got hella played out

The same growling and barking

Limited subject matter and creativity

The excitement of the hood material and persona wears off for all hardcore artists unless they transition and have a personal and display musical growth (compare a Snoop to a 50)

Swizz beats shyt beats

Sound of music changed (soul samples etc)

Focus of NY market changed (Nas, Jay, Dipset, D Block, mixtape scene etc)

So Nas was doing the same thing when he worked with the likes of Missy, Lil Jon, Kanye, Chris Brown, The Game, and Lil Nas X, or does that logic only apply to Hov?

:jbhmm:
I wouldn't say dikkride but Jay rides waves, Nas just kinda does what he wants and if it becomes a hit then it's a hit, but I wouldn't say he soul searches for a new wave to ride imo.

kinda crazy to think he was attempting singles like this in 2006. he was still relevant in the early to mid 2000's but not really cool to the younger generation. i guess when u take pirating into account his sales werent that bad. he'd already built a fanbase. w/ better reception he possibly couldve hovered around platinum for a couple more albums.

you saying this was ass? This was the only song I liked of his in recent memory.

So basically, Hov should never be able to work with others or else he’s penalized, while Nas can do the exact same thing, and it’s A-okay?

Nas did albums with Linkin Park?
Nas did an album with Kanye?
Nas did an album with R Kelly?
Nas did an album with Beyoncé?
Nas toured with Justin Timberlake?

Hov was headed towards Luda/Nelly status but he was a d1ck Ryder

and let’s be real, being married to one of the biggest pop stars of all time will keep you in the spotlight and relevant

i would call it kind of generic sounding but not terrible for swizz i guess. probably not winning over any new fans. look back at the music guys like ghost, jay, busta even az were making in 06 in comparison.

DMX had a 5 year run as a top artist. 1998-2003. That's a great run.

But he definitely took a drop in popularity and it was explained: Drugs, Movies taking him away from the music

But another factor that many don't bring up, X didn't do the "collaborate with who's popular to stay relevant" thing that artists do when they're not the "Hot" rapper at the moment. What Jay and Drake do is collaborate with a lot of the upcoming artists, so they're always in the loop of what's happening. You can tell X be in his own world. X wasn't quick to do songs with nikkas who was hot between 2003-2006 during his slowing down phase. And it hurt his longevity.

Him and 50's careers kinda parallel musically. 50 got bigger than DMX was at his height, but X lasted longer. Both came out red hot, and then had a noticeable drop in popularity. 50's drop was just steeper. X had 3 albums before you noticed a drop 5x platinum (Then There Was X) to 2x platinum (Grand Champ). Where 50 went from 6x platinum to 1x platinum after his second album.

He also didn’t run to ghostwriters either when he started to decline.

Ain’t shyt civil I gave an opinion you disagreed. No need to debate over my opinion.album trash I remember copping it the day it released

then there was x,Great Depression were back to back trash. Grand champ had 3-4 good songs.dmx had a nice run but his music outside the ruff ryders album was garbage post ‘98. If u don’t agree :yeshrug: I wouldn’t expect someone named darkman x to agree

Its cool to have your opinion but all that useless namecalling out the blue made you sound like a kid. This shyt aint that serious. I wasnt being a
stan over it i was sayin i disagreed and you came back with some goofy shyt.

It is what it is :yeshrug:

Now you’re moving the goalposts, but your reasoning is still illogical. I know you wish dude was some bum with no fans, but that just isn’t reality. To be able to do joint albums and tours with those acts, he himself would have to be equal to (in some case above) said artists.
