How did Carti get bigger after WLR?

He’s damn near the premier act in rap right now after dropping one of the most disappointing highly anticipated albums I’ve seen

Usually your relevance takes a hit when you drop a trash album during your rise to stardom but he’s only gotten bigger

The bulk of his demographic is honestly 15-23 year olds, so that allows for a more passionate fan base that's more likely to be open to experimentation and forgiving of mediocre output, perhaps even claiming to like mediocre songs for "cool points" among their peers:manny:

Sidenote: The original "Whole Lotta Red" track that got leaked then scrapped is heavenly :wow::ohlawd:

Has this ever happened before? Where a bad project propels an artist to superstar status?

Can't think of one if there is :yeshrug:

Also keep in mind all the hype that WLR had behind it leading up to the release.

All the buzz likely encouraged other people (me being one of them) to check out his other content and turned them into fans as well.

He makes himself scarce and mysterious to his younger cac fans.

It’s crazy how he seems bigger than Uzi now.

He’s an amazing live performer, his albums are jarring at first but grow on you over time, which means it has replay-ability, and he has the youth, which means he controls the medias target audience. Kinda simple why he’s still around. He’s a prime example of when constantly reinventing yourself goes right. Kendrick does it as well, but to a lesser degree

Old heads strike again

Admittedly, I didn't like WLR either when it came out. Then I realized the sound was just way ahead of it's time. We applaud Future and Thug for their melodies but that whole album was a master class on melodies.

If you seek out Carti for lyrical content you're missing the point. If you go back and listen to that album in proper context it's actually better than Die Lit imo
