How crazy were Jordan shoes in the 80s?

I had the 5s in high school the ones with the glowing tongue. And a year or two later got the Barkley air force 180s. They were

Pippens didn't come out til 1997
We talking late 80s, early 90s
Jordan 1-8 timeframe
Only shoe that was more expensive were the OG Pumps that David Robinson and Woody wore in White Men Can’t Jump
I think those were $175

My brother got them Robinson ones. They came in some monstrous case with a plastic pump to inflate them.

Being in Australia the prices were around $250 back then.

Ended up getting the 4s when they were re-released about 5 years ago I think.

Was my favorite pair of shoes as a kid. My mom could only get me the cheaper pair that only had the air bubble in the back instead of all the way around. I feel like these were the most owned shoe I can remember from growing up. They were EVERYWHERE.
