How could someone not believe in the Bible and Jesus when real-life evidence exists??

Based on the Bible’s own explicitly written genealogical record, the Earth is only a few thousand years old.

This is wholly inconsistent with evidence.

:snooze:
there is no concrete evidence that the earth is as old as they are saying either

because there is no person to go back however many billion years and then communicate a measurement to someone in the present

they make assumptions about how old things are using extrapolations

the way the bible considers time has nothing to do with the earth...

it has to do with generations of "man" from the POV of God

the time that is measured by the sages is just arbitrary

IE there could be 1000x different generations of man in the eyes of God but the "written" generations dont change

You don’t need someone to go back billions of years to determine that the Earth is billions of years old.

Look up radiometric dating.

just because a historical jesus existed doesnt make anything in the bible true

have you ever read any apocrypha? go look up the book of enoch and tell me thats not the silliest shyt youve ever read

the bible is only arranged the way it is because of 2000 years of church dogma. the upper echelons of the church decided what goes in and what doesnt. i guess they knew some of the more ridiculous stuff wouldn't pass muster... theres a reason they didnt allow people to read for hundreds of years. hundreds of years ago most people couldnt read and went to church where the pastor/father riffed on it and told them what it meant.

the best way to become an agnostic/atheist is to actually read the bible

1 And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them, and they taught them charms 2 and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. And they 3 became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells: Who consumed 4 all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against 5 them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and 6 fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones.

if the church never existed and you found the book quoted above, would you sit down and read it and believe in it fully? or would you throw it in the trash? if the church couldnt brainwash children en masse christianity would've faded out by the 1990s. people believe it because its been mushed into their head since birth.

if you have a personal relationship with christ and/or god thats cool. my beef is with organized religion, specifically american protestants and catholics.

That was from one man's interpretation of the genealogy of the people in the Bible and that happened in the 1600s

i worked in radiation sciences

its exactly as I just mentioned, its an extrapolation

it was originally used in forensics where it was accurate in the 10s-100s of years

and then someone got the idea to extrapolate it to 1000s then finally to millions and billions of years. The problem with estimation using halflives using radioactive sources is that there is no "standard" where its proven that an isotope was created at X date then millions of years past and they measured its radioactive decay.

the method used in forensics involved measuring the amount of radioactive material in bones that should not be produced after someone dies, so the quantity of it is remarkably accurate in determining when someone died but not how old the "isotope" is.

whereas geologists are taking ground samples and attempting the same logic but not the same basis.
