How come skin bleaching never became big in black America like it did in Africa & the Caribbean?

I say this as the son to two African parents but born and raised in the states. I also never live there full-time until three years ago. I think because of black Americans proximity to whites in this country, knowing their behavior and how these people hate them, there’s a bit more of an appreciation for the skin they’re in. It’s a uniform because we know in this country and in their hate for black skin, there’s envy for it too. I honestly feel that there’s more of a pride in the skin that you’re in here in the US than it is in Africa.

When Blac Chyna dusty ass went to Nigeria to launch a skin Lightner cream she would never pitch in United States, that says all you need to know about who embraces that bullshyt.

The colonial mentality on the continent is still thriving and strong on much of the collective.

You are saying the women in your family do it when older.

We are talking about young blk women with difficult hair.
Your solution is "why not just get locs"

that sounds a bit crass sir
sorry to say
"you on some light skin shyt"
some shyt drake would say

"girl just get some locs, all dat stress with your naps, go ahead boo"

talking shyt with your puerto rican woman
you wild
you prefer bad weaves to locs?

if it's so difficult to have good weaves...

locs are a logical choice...

I'm not sure what your problem is...

no im asking serious questions...

skin bleaching is so prevalent in your culture...

are bad weaves preferable to locs because locs are seen as too "black/african"?

I just want you to speak from experience.. i don't know these things

It’s crazy.

Facebook had that 10 year challenge and people were showing who they were 10 years ago, the difference from what I saw from African-American Facebook pages and Nigerian Facebook pages was wild. Folks were gone from dark to light back home.

shyt is embarrassing and is a point of contention for anyone back home who encounters me about it.

Forget about that.

How much does a nice weave or wash, set, blowout cost

let us talk prices

and it has to be maintained

Blowouts range from 30-$100something depending on quality.
Weave installation? More, just depends on who you know.
A NICE updo would be like $150.
Something like pinkie box braids would be $220 but they last 4-8 weeks. These women you keep speaking on go to white woman stores to buy white women wigs and they're as expensive as (or more than) the services you just asked about.

With the circumstances considered. FBAs can make the case that we've handled colorism better than any other group. In and out of the diaspora

its not a thing here, because ultimately you will clowned and shamed for it.
Proximity to the hateful american oyinbo I think made folks here more prideful of the skin theyre in.

I cannot tell the difference between real hair and weaves
I cannot tell what a "bad weave" is

maybe if it smells or looks like plastic

I am saying that to say the little I know about it is that
more money you have
better quality you can get
more money you can pay, better hairdresser you can get

in my culture if you would call it that
the men I knew do so cause they criminals

in my culture men usually do not give a shyt about womens weaves on some scientific shyt

some of my blk american friends will not hesitate tell a woman her weave is "trash"
cultural

in my culture bleachers are shameful, criminals, gay, dumb etc
at least obvious bleachers
I have never discussed bleaching so much in my life

What would you say the average woman spends on quality weave, installation and maintenance monthly?
with hair products included

bout $400?

and contrasting that to poor women who do not have that disposable income

we going in circles

We have been at this for hours
you have read my posts and signature thing hundreds of times
and still calling me african

other day I was being called hispanic

there is such a thing as loving and defending those unlike yourself
other human beings
those with different experiences and life stories
whether that be wite, blk, or creole posters like yourself

at other times I am called wite for defending what I think are good wite people

you are being a light skin stereotype
stop it

have a wonderful night
I am usually on twitter, facebook, reddit, and anywhere I can be to find news on investing etc
I am taking a break of sorts
have not taken a break in bout 4 years
so this is me not concentrating on the markets etc
I like nice discussion and debates
I also hate that most of our debates and threads ALWAYS end up being deleted
because of disrespect
we should be able to discuss anything
as adults

so I thank you for nice discussions
