How come Penny doesn't get the same support from our people as a coach, that Deion does as a coach?

Good point.I'm trying to think who could move the needle as coach as much as Deion. Even Michael or LeBron probably wouldn't be the same. AI? Even AI is too "hood" for the masses. Deion is perfect because he has the swagger, but he's "safe", unlike AI.

Maybe the only guy who I could see coming even somewhat close in terms of being safe, charismatic, but still bringing the "cool' and relevance to today's youth would be Chad.
imagine if michael irvin was a coach

College Basketball damn near dead from NIL while CFB is immortal despite of it. Okay I’m exaggerating a bit, but that’s still how it mostly feels.

Honestly didn’t know Penny was still there after those rough first years. Good on Memphis not succumbing to pressure and firing him.
His name and what he means to the city is the only reason why he’s still there as anyone else would have gotten fired for the constant recruiting violations that he’s had under his tenure.

Even now, there’s still more popping up and it’s only so long that they’ll stand behind him at the expense of the program.

Deion was a better athlete (not a Penny diss as much as acknowledging how that dude Deion was), levels beyond as an cultural icon, and has many have mentioned he is more charismatic. He is a natural showman and knows how to get people going. Penny was great for a time but injuries robbed him of what couldve been an ATG but nowhere near GOAT career. And dude is so quiet and chill that they had to make Lil Penny to talk for him.

This too
Why pit two black men against each other? Doesn’t seem productive.

The real answer is Deion busted the good ol boys, exclusionary CFB coaching mafia.

A black basketball coach isn't a ground breaking, cultural shift development.
And this

Also, even when comparing white to white, football coaches are more revered than basketball coaches overall. The players in football are viewed as less important than the players in basketball, relative to the head coach/scheme of the team.

All this "personality" talk, I guess I can't blame Democrats for using rappers and entertainers to get out votes, since it seems like that moves the needle with us.
It ain’t got shyt to do with personality. Penny don’t win enough. He made the big splashes in recruiting, but in college bball if you wanna be a star you gotta show up in March and Penny has only had Memphis in the tourney twice, with only one win.

Deion was one of the best ever at his position and is an attention magnet. Penny was a talented promising player who had his career cut short by injuries. The legacies alone separate them.

Penny is nowhere near the showman and charismatic promoter Deion is, also Deion’s career was 100x better than Penny’s was so his cache is that much bigger. Also CBB isn’t that popular enough anymore to really be the topic of conversation that isn’t March Madness because of one and done especially compared to CFB.
