How come Penny doesn't get the same support from our people as a coach, that Deion does as a coach?

I guess there’s several things
1. CFB >>> college basketball
2. Deion >>> Penny, media wise and sports wise
3. Made an hbcu the wave on mainstream sports shows and stuff
4. This might be questionable cause I don’t follow college basketball but black coaches in the top is more common in basketball than football?
5. Sanders son is a pre-pro star

Terrible comparison cause of the way the two sports are talked about in the media.

A better comparison would be Eddie George and what he's been doing at Tennessee State University.

The answer is obvious cause prime raised his profile by 1) having a little league team 2) starting a school that failed and 3) being on nfl network for years

In other words, he laid the ground work to be a high profile coach and college is all about recruiting.

Can’t compare anyone to what Prime is doing. There’s just levels.

As mentioned Prime is a football coach, which is significantly more popular than a college basketball coach. He had a unique career playing two sports. He’s a hall of famer in football. He networks like no other, and understands the importance of relationships. He’s a businessman, and constantly into different business ventures. He’s an entertaining speaker. Lastly, let’s not forget he has his own media team lead by Bucky covering the team daily.

Having said that, Penny’s hire did generate a lot of attention. He also got a lot of hate from coaches, because they feared his recruiting potential and ability to relate to players. Despite his short career, his still the most popular former player turned college coach. If he wasn’t so reserved, he would be more popular.

Deion is a very charismatic/funny character that pandered with the "pro black" HBCU move/talk. He wouldn't have gotten the support he has gotten had he not started at Jackson State. Penny is pretty straightforward and straightforwardness doesn't entice the masses

Considering all of the controversy and violations surrounding that Memphis program over the past few years, the last thing Penny needs is more attention on himself especially when they haven’t met expectations like that.

I’d go as far as saying he doesn’t know what he’s doing out here nor doesn’t care.

Penny isn't trying to sell himself, his sons, and the program. Penny is just doing his job, and don't want the extras. Colorado had no motion so i can see why they hired a flamboyant coach

All this "personality" talk, I guess I can't blame Democrats for using rappers and entertainers to get out votes, since it seems like that moves the needle with us.

there's substance behind this as well

Deion is one of the greatest American pro athletes EVER... the personality aint hollow. Penny couldn't compare to that even if he was a comparable showman

and your democratic point is moot as the strategy failed embarrassingly

It's a mixture of Deion being a truly unique personality, with the resume to back it up and the unquestioned cosign of the culture, and him choosing to go the HBCU route while taking some of the best talent with him.

Randy Moss, Ray Lewis (the murder shyt will always place a bit of a ceiling on him), and Ken Griffey Jr. (if he made a vocal stance about wanting to bring AA talent back to baseball) are the only ones I could see getting close to Deion level support from the culture. Maybe Vince Carter if he truly went the HBCU route or a smaller non-HBCU with the right recruiting mindset.

The media is obsessed wit Deon. but besides that i don't see the black community supporting one more or less than the other.
