First of all many of these were created by white writers in a time when political correctness wasn't a thing.
I also imagine the blaxpoitation era had a big influence on names/designs. See films such as black ceaser

That was a concept and not canon.Black Panther gets a pass, cause a black panther is a specific type of panther that has melanism (opposite of alibinoism).
Cougars, jaguars and leopards are all panthers... so a black panther is a specific type of animal.

The most fukked up superhero was this fat white dude called the Brown Bomber. He would become a buff black dude, fight crime, then go back to being a fat piece of shyt cac. He was created by Dwayne McDuffie (creator of Static Shock) to highlight how racist the comic industry can be.
Dwayne McDuffie was a real one.

That's the same question everyone ask. But I have a feeling that X-writers been wanting to make Storm fully biracial. Thats another story.
