Sly, you're pro-gay marriage and you don't even realize it. All gays want is State marriage, which they currently don't have access to (civil unions don't give them the full rights that a marriage would.) This is totally separate from the issue of religious marriage, which has no connection to the law, and gays have no quarrel with religious marriage. Religious institutions will still have the right to refuse to marry gay couples. Basically, the stuff in bold is exactly what the gay populations wants/is trying to get across.
Right now, the situation is the opposite, where religious people are trying to inject religion into state marriage, which is inherently secular, in an attempt to stop gays from being able to have State marriages, yet when this is pointed out, it's twisted into looking like an attack on religion or religious rights, when it's simply pointing out the law. It's the secular concept of marriage that is actually under attack by religious people, not the other way around.
