Goku is asian though, he seems just as asian as chi-chi. He has dark hair, dark eyes, and most of the traits you would expect an asian to have.

Now this is a white guy.

The only thing non asian about goku are his transformations, those are suspect but regular goku seems asian just like yamcha and the rest of the cast who also are asian.

I just don't get how they can tell us that these characters are Japanese and then not have any distinction between supposedly Asian characters and white characters.

One of these characters is American.

I've noticed that they have no problem drawing villains or Chinese people with more Asian features though.

I think its basically the Japs trying to project themselves as white. They hate their race and how they look. They have no problem drawing racialized caricatures as seen by the black dude in the Majin Buu Saga.

No for one i was smart enough to know that Anime came from Japan...if anything as a kid i thought EVERYONE was Japanese unless specifically stated other wise. Just like i though ALL cartoons made in America were about Americans....even look at the locales for most Anime...its either Tokyo which looks NOTHING like any American city or some rural obviously Japanese setting...

sounds like to me you didn't have good inference skills as a kid, i NEVER though anyone in Anime was white and as i stated, racially it wasn't even a factor. Hell even look at Macross which had Roy Folker and Claudia LaSalle who were OBVIOUSLY black...and it still wasn't really a racial thing to me...they are cartoons breh.

For someone who's clearly not Asian, you seem to be a master on the inner workings of the Asian mind, culture and psyche. Don't you hate when non-black races make sweeping generalizations about blacks?

It's an easy mistake to make.

Growing up, I used to think that shyt because they'd make all the heroes with what I thought were "white" features, and then they'd stereotype nikkas on some Mr. Popo shyt.

Up until recently, all the black characters I had ever seen looked like some shyt straight out of a minstrel show. Meanwhile, other groups were drawn with a bit more respect...cacs included. Hence the "worship" thought process.

This dude looks like a normal black guy to me. Besides, he is one of the nicest guy in Ippo. He is not a laughing stock in the show or anything.
