Mine went through a lot to help me walk the right path. We need parents who are willing to have their child's back even during the tougher times. More involvement in their schools, what is being taught. etc.
You're unlikely to raise a hoodrat if you yourself is a University educated individual. How are you gonna tell a child what to do if you unload trucks for a living? Or if you work at a Wal-Mart?
Show them what they can have, if you work hard, and have a great job.

the people glorifying it have a vested interest in glorifying it and if no one glorified the gang lifestyles, they would still thrive because there would still be gangs.
you want to "solve gang violence"? solve economic inequality but that won't happen because this system can't exist without there being winners and losers and it's rigged to ensure that "certain groups" have a disproportionate amount of losers and a few winners that everybody points at and asks "why can't yall be more like them"
I had a good path and my parents didn't go to college. It's all about what types of individuals you surround yourself with. If you surround yourself with negativity, then you yourself will have a negative outcome. That's the power of digging deep into things. If my people would use their mind like I and some of the others do we would do wonders. Our brain is like a computer and its used to retain information.
this is the kind of dumb shyt we have to endure in threads like these which is why I largely ignore them

Lead by example. You have to be the role model! If you're not. Then the drug dealers will, they drive the nice cars, they have the most money.
Great discussion.... All i got to contribute is this, White Supremacy is the disease and Gangster Rap,Broken Family structure,Cop brutality,Mass Incarceration,Medical Apartheid,etc are the symptoms. If you want to get rid of the symptoms address the disease.

believe it or not but a parent who unloads trucks or works at walmart can be a role model to their child, working at walmart or unloading trucks is hard work and can serve as an example for a child why they should obtain an education so they don't have to work as hard as their parents. immigrants didn't come to this country fresh off boats enrolling in colleges, they had to work very difficult jobs and pool money so their offspring could afford college.

if we eliminate the symptoms, the disease is still very much present. Cutting off a foot that needs to be cut off because of diabetes will not cure the diabetes that required the foot to be cut off.

What's the point of working hard when I can just go work for that nikka with the big ass chain and benz down the street and make more than my parents, he didn't even graduate high school.

I don't deal in absolutes, it's just going to be harder. It is much easier when you go down the path I described.

I agree with most of this, but I was going to say more fathers. My childhood was spent in the hood and if not for my fathers guidance and discipline I would have been running wild.
