There should be multiple mods and when something needs to be rectified a quick discussion can be had to fix it rather than an arbitrary "I'm ____ and I say so" action.
Not being a mod I can't say what they do or don't do behind the scenes, but it
SEEMS like mods are generally given the title with little to no forum specific guidelines. (This is just my perception, I could be 100% wrong)
I want to be clear, I'm not saying we need more moderation, or any at all to begin with, just an observation of the current system.
I really don't have a preference at this point whether or not the arcadium is moderated. I just think if it's going to continue to be moderated there's certainly room for improvement.
When I think of a traditional moderator I think of a person who stands back and observes. They may make a comment here and there to spur conversation or steer a discussion a certain way to keep it on topic.
They certainly don't actively get into debates or sling insults back and forth with people. To me, that isn't the job of a moderator. But I get this isn't CNN or Fox News so things aren't going to be a 1:1 comparison as far as how moderation should be handled.
