i got beat with extension cords, belts, switches, paddles with holes in them.. and so will my offspring when they get out of pocket

That's unfortunate
Beating your kids won't make them any better or worse kids. In fact it will create resentment against you as a father in many cases. I feel that it's just lazy parenting to hit your kids.
My mom beat me all the time but I never remembered any of the beatings. It didn't curb any of my bad behavior. The only thing that was effective in instilling values in me vis-a-vis my mother was her adult criticism of my life trajectory, she was honest in telling me that whatever I was doing was leading me to become a loser, and that stuck with me.

that's cus it was ya moms beating you. i don't know ya upbringing, but with me -- pops was the one to tear that ass up with a belt or something, while moms was there to nurture me after.
i get what you're saying though, i just disagree. im not saying take your day out on your kid, but discipline is always needed. i've seen what asian dads do to their kids, and i see how well they strive for success and the approval of their parents.
