Mets fans probably think the season is bad because Diaz is hurt.
A closer doesn’t impact the game that much.
They’re bad because they spent a ton of money on guys who aren’t that good.
Lindor, Escobar, Marte. All moves that I criticized on here and everyone ignored.
They took on limited talent like Vogelbach and Canha.
They let talented pitchers go.
And then they thought their rookie prospects would save them. And let’s be clear. Baty and Alvarez may be good someday. But rookies struggle and rarely can be relied upon.
They opened up the books to get Verlander and Scherzer. Both still solid pitchers. But both near the end of their careers.
If you ask me (and you didn’t. Because you goons never recognize good baseball advice when you see it) the Mets should have a fire sale and try to acquire as many prospects as possible.
Pete Alonso is a star but best case scenario he’ll be 33 by the time the Mets might be any good. And he’s up for Free Agency soon.
Brandon Nimmo is a good player. He’s signed for the next 6 years. His contract could age really badly given that he’s not a power threat. So if he loses bat speed you’re paying 20 million dollars for Matt Vierling.
They don’t have a single pitching prospect worth a damn right now.
The future is far brighter in Atlanta and Miami than it is in Queens. Even in Philadelphia, though quietly, that roster is older than you’d like.
Start over, Mets. Don’t delay the inevitable.
