The Tre :blessed:
I'm from Greenspoint but I love living here.

Yeah, man I live on the nawf but I'm in the souf wit some fam this weekend. The tre is looking like where it's at right now.

I went up to This Is It to grab today a bite to eat, but they don't serve breakfast on the sundays.

I used to think the Nawf was killin the Souf in terms of it's black bbq scene. Man the tre, but ESPECIALLY the southeast park/south acres/sunnyside area is a hidden gem for hole in the wall black bbq and breakfast soul joints(something I been lookin for for a while). :ohhh:Had me some fye ass rib sandwich from Sausage and Boudin Shack in South Park. Prolly gon hit up Uncle Wickeys or Nicey's tomorrow in South Park.

Now I can't say for sure. I think the Nawf is can only say they creole soul is SLIGHTLY better at this point. :hubie:5th ward boudain > all other boudain including louisiana.

But, the Soufside even gotta lotta creole joints and creole plates in they black joints as well. I didn't think the souf had em like that outside the tre.

Still wanna hit up sunshines for a bean pie, in the tre too.

I think the only thing the Northside has over anywhere else is most nightlife spots dont have a cover ,parking is free, and most midshelf liquor is 8 dollars.I cant think of one restaurant I would go North just to eat at .Maybe Bar Louie but that's more a hangout.Theres a spot called Cafe Rian by deerbrook mall little black owned cajun joint .

Screw definitely started the movement and added the chopping effect with the crossfader, but these are the actual originators of the slowed down screw sound in Third Ward.

@Southside Swangin @shopthatwrecks

Do y'all know where to find them original DJ Darryl Scott mixes from the 80s and early 90s or if they even still exist, cuz that shyt is like a invaluable fossil of history in the city.

Preciate that. Imma check out thescrewshop forum. Getting a hold of just ONE of them records is more important than the lost city of atlantis of some shyt to me.

Finding some of them old DJ Bone mixes was cool, because he was doing it with some SUC and former SUC members while Screw was doing it. SUC even dissed him lol.

But, them DJ Daryl Scott mixes came BEFORE Screw was doing it. That makes the shyt that much more valuable. And that happens to be the one we can't find. :francis:

And I'mma just be honest we also need to find it, because you got some OTers claiming that they were slowing down music before the city using Screw as a comparison not knowing we been doing this shyt since the 80s. You even got some Mexicans claiming that Screw got it from Cumbia music :what: lol

OT: I'm also trying to find more evidence of 80s and earlier drank/syrup use in the city.

The historian Lance Walter Scott says that lean use began with blues artist in the 60s mixing robitussin with beer.
Learn all about the long, lean history of "sizzurp" with this 7-minute audio primer

The only evidence of that I was able to find was while I was doing research for my big Carl Hampton, the PPII leader, post I made a few pages back.

This source says when Carl set up shop on Dowling in 1970 Third Ward was known for it's open air trade in cough syrup.
Forgotten Houston July 1970: HPD vs. the Black Panthers

After that I hit a dead end on the subject.

He said something along the lines that the 25 lighters song put DJ Screw on. And he was the reason for PA and H-town coming together.

1. Screw and the SUC was "on" since the 3 n the morning tape in 94 which hit box office stores. 25 lighters came out in 98.

2. UGK was fkin with screw and shoutin him out before 25 lighters came out. Futhermore, Houston metro and the Golden triangle are neighors in SETX. We pretty much got the same SETX culture and origins, down to the accents and everything. We brothers. We don't need to be introduced through rap music, especially by DJ DMD lol

Dude been off one. He even said some slick shyt about Pimp C as well talking bout he put him on or some shyt.
