You preaching to the choir. I live in NOLA. I get the “ I don’t know how y’all live there “ all the time from family and friends in H town. I ain’t bout that suburb life

Gentrification is bad in NOLA. I seen some pictures and vids of some of the downtown wards since I last was there.

:francis: Not pretty.

I don't know bout y'all. But, I think we need to stop p*ssy footin around when it comes to gentrification and fight this shyt aggressively.

These developers and cac hipsters want us gone. This shyt is war to me.

NOLA
If you talkin young black professional adult who've just moved into the city especially from far off places with no family connections here, then I can kinda understand.

But, if you takin the older gen like my grandparents peers or people who share family connections with them then nah. Because MOST of them originally came from out of town and a good chunk of them being from out of state. These people have a moral obligation to help preserve our legacy in the city. Most of the historical neighborhoods and landmarks were originally founded by out of towners, whether you talking about restaurants, theaters, clubs, museums, frats, benevolent societies, you name it. Houston was just a satellite city for the port of Galveston before the oil boom in the early 20th century(and even before then the city was still well over %25 black, and most of them were STILL from out of town).

Juneteeth was founded here for god sake. If you AADOS living here you have a part to play in the black community here.

I work across from the AME church on Louisiana, downtown I always thought the church was out of place in that area, until I did the history of the area immediately west of downtown. They got it now , sad stuff

nikkas woke up and I know few people who have made it an effort to invest in the hood. The problem with us is limited resources, honestly the middle class black folk are solid be we just don’t have the numbers.

this should be another thread, it’s starting to veer into a whole nother conversation.

shyt like this is why I don't believe in being civil with these mfkn corrupt ass developers or the politicians that sanction them.

An unauthorized contractor came into the 4th ward to remove the historic bricks without permission, but were caught by community activists who stopped their bulldozing in their tracks. Years later the bricks were reinstalled.

DESTROYED: Freedman’s Town Bricks Destroyed: Someone at City Hall Had To Know Something - Houston Forward Times

Historic Bricks Laid By Ex-Slaves In Houston Reinstalled, At Freedmen’s Town | Houston Public Media

They play dirty, so we should too.

Plus, you should go onto city data and reddit and watch how these racist cacs talk about how these neighborhoods need to be bulldozed and "beautified" and have their residents displaced so that "productive" citizens can move in to replace them.

AADOS in houston better wake the fukk up to what we're dealing with.

lol This thread is for everyone and everything H-town, breh.

Far as I can tell there's no real topic of the thread outside of Houston, so it's open discussion in my book.

I'm just posting shyt that's concerning to me as a native and proponent of the people, community, and culture.

Don't let me get in your way.

But, to answer your question I know there's one way over in by the deerbrook mall on townsen blvd that I went to as a kid one time. I'm pretty sure it's still there.

:wow: Damn. Even way out in the suburbs?!?! Does Houston/Harris County not oversee permits correctly? This is could be massive lawsuits coming to governments, not even speaking of companies.

Always said I wanted one of the 3 story jawns with tje rooftop balcony, but now..:hubie:

Not to mention the shotgun houses were originally built to sit high on top of bricks for the most part precisely because of flooding.

Wasn't no flood insurance for freed slaves and a large number were concentrated in coastal areas. They had to make sure that shyt was gone last.

And these the houses that the city wants to tear down the most. smh

Sorry breh, didn't understand if you needed to rent the ATVs as well but I just asked some dude at lunch and they said they ride around Crosby,
And told me of a place that also rents And delivers to the nearby parks (link has the parks links)
Services
Hope this helps
