I can see now why Afwerki was upset with Abiy for withdrawing from Tigray last year. TPLF needed to be crushed completely at that time. That voluntary withdrawal gave them life militarily and diplomatically. Many of the fires you are seeing around Ethiopia today can be attributed to TPLF and their allies (OLA, Sudan, US/EU interference). Abiy was weak when he needed to be cutthroat. Now he is being tested from every front. Even Egypt is trying to jump in.

Abiy ain't no savior. He is also in bed with some dubious characters (amhara emperialists, religious extremists etc). I understand it's a game he has to play, since he needs all the allies he can get, but still... he ain't some innocent party to the conflict. Overall, the situation in Ethiopia does not look pretty. I pray that they find a solution, but it's too many factions that are trying to keep the fire burning. The Sudan situation can lead to a catastrophic regional war.

I've always despised the TPLF for the crimes they committed (Zenawi :pacspit:), but federalism in and of itself was maybe not such a bad idea. Autonomous self-rule for the major ethnic groups could work to quell some of the tensions. Maybe let the Tigrayans run their own state as long as they swear loyalty to the central government. Of course that would create some new tensions over borders etc.....

Is this Sudan's true motivation though? @dtownreppin214 @2Quik4UHoes

They are taking advantage of the Ethiopian military being stretched on numerous fronts to make territorial gains in a disputed area on the border. This also gives the unelected junta an opportunity to bring Sudanese people together for a common cause.

Sudan/Egypt are not on good terms with Ethiopia because of GERD but they do not have the military might to attack or disrupt the project. Instead, I believe they are conspiring with Egypt and the TPLF to create as much chaos in Ethiopia as possible, in order to weaken Abiy leading up to these peace negotiations.

This pretty much. It’s a regional geopolitical fight right now. What Ethiopia could use is some disruptions for Egypt. New conflict between Gaza/Israel or alarming shifts within Libya would pull its focus away.

I’m rooting for the Sudanese protestors, they’ve gotta get rid of Burhan he’s a very obviously el-Sisi puppet.

Its funny how they just realized she's a progressive Dem

That Shukri lady is trying to be the GOP nominee in that district but probably won't be
It can’t be just that. I think Minnesota is Farmaajo country right? She was on American talking points in his last year in office. Also her leaving her husband for a white man can’t sit well with people.

What is he saying here?
