Jordan Neely’s father, Andre Zachery, addresses reporters outside court after Daniel Penny was found not guilty of criminally negligent homicide for choking his son on the subway in 2023

“It hurts. It really, really hurts. What are we gonna do, people? What’s gonna happen to us now?”

Eric Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr, accompanied Zachery to court today. Her son was killed in a department-banned police chokehold in 2014. She said the verdict set a disturbing precedent.

“If the police can’t do it, the civilians can’t do it.”

CSOs escorted Penny and his lawyers out of the building through a back door

In a phone call, Thomas Kenniff said his client was “elated” and now celebrating with his legal team

“Justice has finally been served, and Danny has gotten the acquittal that he knew was coming the last 18 months …”

Kenniff added Penny was “elated” to “finally not to be living under the weight of false accusations and having his honor diminished by this misguided indictment.”

Zachery’s attorney, Donte Mills, sued Penny on his behalf last week. He said the verdict means, “If we see someone going through something, to ask them if they’re okay. That’s how we help each other. Because we can’t rely on the system to do it for us.” https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/12...uit-against-daniel-penny-for-chokehold-death/

You ask someone coming at you with a deadly weapon if there’s anything you can do to help. I’m defending myself with deadly force if necessary to protect my family, my friends, the general public and myself.

The demonization and dehumanization of homeless people is why this happened... This world is sickening.

Require the city to protect every single homeless person by doing mandatory psych holds and forced drug treatment. If they refuse send them to prison. If anyone disagrees woth this after this verdict they are negligent and allowing homeless to be put in harms way.

The mentally ill and homeless have no value in this society and are disposable according to the jury. Absolutely sickening.
what do you propose we do with them?

come to Philly...
or go to a city like San Fransisco where people deal with these folks attacking them

people like to sit online and say shyt like "mentally ill have no value in society :mjcry: "
but then have no solution to the issues

to do what?
save homeless crazy people?

what group does that?

this isnt about race...
this is about people in cities being tired of dodging crazy people everyday...
...people in cities being in dangerous situations that involve a crazy person in public

you can disagree or agree with the verdict...
but folks experience with crazy people is why the jury voted the way they did
Said earlier in this thread he’d be tough to convict exactly for those reasons. These folks are dodging dudes like that on the regular. Incredibly difficult to have 12 folks convict in this circumstance when that’s part of their own daily commutes
