granted I'm a movie fanatic who is online all day, but i just look at this list and think "what the fukk did they think would happen?" on every single one. None of those movies had a chance to be hits.

1. Rock The Kasbah - stupid premise, didn't seem funny
2. The Gunman - generic as fukk, no one wants Sean Penn in this kinda role
3. Blackhat - forgettable as all fukk
4. Unfinished Business - no one likes Vaughn anymore, and this wasn't funny
5. Jem & The Holograms - brand no one in this generation knows or cares about
6. Self/Less - forgot what this was
7. American Ultra - should have came out years ago
8. We Are Your Friends - gimmie a fukkin break
9. Aloha - does anyone know what this is about?
10. Mortdecai - corn city, Depp without makeup = flop
11. Pan - no one wants the Peter Pan origin story, massively expensive
12. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 - unnecessary second rate sequel to a movie that wasn't huge in the first place
13. Jupiter Ascending - my god
14. Tomorrowland - i guess this could have been a hit, but it probably confused the general public
15. Crimson Peak - big budget Del Toro gothic haunted house? Who asked for that?

at this point, is there an actor who opens movies anymore? Without the story being a brand name, so don't say RDJ or something. If there was just a regular drama starring ___________, could it make $100 million?

I would have said Bradley Cooper after American Sniper, but as we've seen from his next few movies, that was sold on concept and subject matter.

When was the last time you thought "I'm gonna go see that __________ movie?" Will Smith's Concussion will probably flop and I don't think Focus broke the bank.

Dicaprio?

Dicaprio is the last real movie star.

Denzel has dropped off significantly in the last decade.

Well actually Jennifer Lawrence too.
has she ever opened a movie like im talking about though? she's been in Hunger Games and XMen. She had some movie "Serena" that no one saw. We'll see how "Joy" does.

I would have said Sandra Bullock was a box office draw, but even her last movie was a huge flop.

Who's the top comedy dog right now? Kevin Hart? do any of his movies break the bank or just do well? Will Ferrell? Seth Rogen movies are always funny, but he needs others to open "big."

Seth is kinda stale, he literally is the same guy in every movie he plays. Whether he has glasses, whether he has a beard, whether he has a clean face.

Yes, Sandra did fall off but she was a draw indeed. Surprisingly, Harts movies do bank.... thats why dudes been on this amazing run as a black comedian right now

I saw all of those and none of them were good. Probably the best of that lot is HTTM2 and that's not saying much.

So is someone like say Denzel Washington and many other known actors. Many of these guys play the same core personality with a different back story and name.

:russ:

You were spot on. Only thing I can think of is that Del Toro has been on a semi-hot streak recently and he's the type of director that good reviews and word of mouth can typically push a film..

And honestly the Wachowski's are the DEFINITION of :flabbynsick:. Unless the word "Matrix" is a part of their next film they shouldn't be allowed to go anywhere NEAR a film budget

What has Del Toro done lately besides Pacific Rim, which wasn't nearly as cool as I thought it'd be. The dude talks about doing more amazing projects than any director... then does Crimson Peak.

He attaches himself to awesome shyt, then when you hear him speak all he talks about is Pacific Rim 2 and Hellboy 3... we don't need these movies, and i like the Hellboy series a lot. Then he inevitably drops out of the cool project and does this... now he won't make a movie for 3 years watch. Why can he write Justice League Dark but not direct it?
