where did you start and stop with the anime?
I don't know. I watched a few episodes with my younger brother when he was a teen (we are ten years apart) and I couldn't get into it. I grew up on the 90s stuff when we still called it "Japanese cartoons, or animation" and most of the stuff were OVAs with top notch animation and weren't tropey.
