I don't judge by popularity but you have to take influence into consideration. Whats the mark your legacy is going to leave. To be number 1 it has to be high.

Allot of MCs are influenced by greats and don't even know it.

I think Scarface & Ghostface are right there in the Nas/Jay discussion.

Thats basically my top 4 right there, but I got to fit g rap and rakim in there somewhere.

Emeritus, MADE, & The Fishscale are 3 of the hardest albums last decade. I swear young nikkas aren't hip but those joins are nuts.

G Rap kind of fell of to me. I most recently heard him on Ross' joint in 2010 and Ross kind of gave it to him so I stopped checking.

Link me to some new G Rap

There isn't a GOAT.

Pac/Nas/Hov.

Take you pick depending on the concept you're going for or the style of song you want. Nas has the most insecure fans on the internet though. It's like you guys feel the need to validate yourselves through him every chance you get. About 5 people heard Distant Relatives. I'm a borderline Nas stan and even I didn't want to bother with that.

I haven't heard Life is Good yet, but it sounds like he finally got his ear for music back. Nothing is more overrated on here than Untitled and I still play it. The worst thing about Nas fans is that they think everything he says is gospel so when he raps with a monotone flow over even worse beats they go crazy for it because they think he's spitting "truth." He does a lot of the time, but not always. Just because a song has a message doesn't mean it's executed well.

His execution has been inconsistent until this run of the last 18 months or so. shyt like "Who Killed It" was terrible. But then "Let There Be Light" would be really good. I wonder if some Nas fans remember that music is supposed to be listenable. His shyt has been uneven since Street's Disciple.

so you're a borderline nas stan and you haven't heard his last 2 albums? :what:

HOES ON MY dikk CUZ I LOOK LIKE NAS

If your a concious rapper you wish you had the ability to connect to your listeners like Pac.

If your political rapper u wish you had the fire Pac had.

If your a gangster rapper you wish you had the believability and wuz considered the realest ever like Pac.

combine the catalogue, versatility, classic moments Pac is unmatched....hiphops Marvin Gaye....true soul music, multis and wordplay seem so unimortant....nikka got masterpieces

I respect the Pac arguments completely. The only reason i feel 100% comfortable with placing Nas @ 1 is hes still alive and very capable of dropping albums on that LFIG level.

Pac can't drop anything

2Pac is the GOAT without any bias opinion.

Only way I can see Jay having it is due to a long career without any breaks and his power moves that he makes. Still he has a power to change history and that's a no no.

Ice Cube should be GOAT for his lane and era. He just does not have the power like Pac and Jay has to keep up with the times. But still, Death Certificate>>>>Any Album.

Nas might not be legendary like Pac or be popular like Jay is now but he still got it. He is the only rapper that do not dress and act like a 17 year old teenager. He is Cosby status, and that is not a bad thing. What I'm saying is that when you get old you should want to talk and address things as what your age is versus acting like a teenager on records all the time. Yeah LIG might not be illmatic or stillmatic but an album coming from his age and point of view now shows a lot. I salute him.

My top five hip hop artists are:

2Pac
Nas
Ice Cube
Krs-One
Camron

The answer is Jay Z and there is no one close.

How the hell can guys like Scarface and Ghostface be considered GOAt when they have one type of fan and can make music catering to them without having to make hit records or anything.

Jay Z is a more talented Rapper than Nas and he makes better hooks.

But so are Cube and Jay imo....and let's be honest when it comes to goat talk we really judge these rappers off what they do at they apex and peak of popularity....Nas problem is at his peak of popularity and prime there were nikkas more popular and making better music back in the 90's so he really never had his moment where the game wuz his and he had it sewn....and he had multiple chances, after Pac died they wuz pushin em as the new thug poet, biggie died he had a chance to be KONY and it wuz his for the taking.....but dmx came and took the next Pac thing and ran with it,Jay took the KONY title....for anybody sayin Jay got lucky Biggie died, why didn't Nas get lucky when he wuz next in line?

Then Nas had his next chance after the Jay battle when all eyes wuz on him and he shocked the world...i.he wuz dissin nikkas for bein wack, callin out record stations for payola,I wuz :sadcam: he wuz about to take the game in a whole new direction and outta Jays hands,a direction we mighta been grateful for considering the state of the game....but what does Nas do?he apoligizes and goes back to his cave and outta the limelight and 50 takes over.:snoop:

And I know sumbody gon say he not that type of dude who likes attention, and that's nice and all but nikkas get remembered off impact, everytime he had a chance to have a impact and be on top of the game other nikkas either jumped out in front or he fell back...that's not a major blow in his standing but it woulda helped I think had a took ahold of what wuz their for the taking on multiple occasions, and made the impac he wuz capable of

I respect what your saying cause I see where your coming from. Personally my criteria for my own personal list is who I feel makes the best music, so influence to me doesn't neccessarily come into it, it's mainly body of work to me. If it was objective in terms of the overall greatest with set criteria then that's different, I just feel sometimes it's harsh to punish certain MC's just because of marketing or luck issues, cause they can't neccessarily always effect their influence, if you have an artist on a worldwide label then an underground artist, the underground artist could potentially be far better but his/her influence may be less cause of factors beyond their control. That's true, certain MC's from the past have influenced the future but sometimes cause of ignorance they don't even realise their own lyrical bloodline. Face I definetly rate very highly, Face would be in a top 20 at least for me. Am a huge fan of what face does, coincidentally Face says K-Rino is the best artist period.
