If they had any balls at all - it would be Velveteen Dream.
Like him or hate him - he's a 'character' in the way they use to make. He's also charismatic in a way they can't teach at the PC. He's one of the few people they could send to a regular talk show and I don't think he'd let the gimmick slip at all - like Savage when they used to send him to do Arsenio.
All he has to do is watch a bunch of old Prince interviews and make his own version of that. Twitter would do the rest.
The Bleacher Report focus group piece put him way above pretty much everyone else on the NXT roster with non-fans

By comparison Reigns - who has been pushed extensively for years on the main roster only got a 4.3. Adam Cole scored 2.1. We don't have to talk about Bianca Belair beating both Braun and Bayley in this either

To me, he was fourth tier in Bullet Club - behind even Chase Owens - and now he just seems like a regular ass White guy who copies Shawn Michaels pretty well.

Adam Cole is a better wrestler than 95% percent of the current roster. He carries himself like a champion. He is the future. Dream is also the future, I see him as the Brett Hart to HBK. Also to say he was Chase Owens level is disgraceful.

To a casual fan - who they would need to reach to get anyone to the level of the wrestlers mentioned in the OP, it doesn't matter if he's a better wrestler than the rest of the roster.
Like I said - someone went to the trouble to poll members of the general public about characters that would engage them. Cole isn't moving the needle like that. I honestly wonder if some of the people on TSC have any idea of pop culture outside wrestling sometimes.
Personally - the only time I've ever seen Cole he was in the ROH wing of Bullet Club and he never struck me as 'That Dude'. I could give a fukk less about you thinking its disgraceful

A lot of people saying Adam Cole, but Cole isn't able to show his personality as a babyface and that's what you need to be the face of the company.
Mustafa Ali fits the bill to me. Great look, great promos, and appeals to the Muslim community which is a huge portion of the WWE fanbase.
I also believe Montez Ford and Velveteen Dream can be that guy too.

Not gonna talk about his size because we are in an era where the highest grossing boxers are welters and middleweights(Floyd/Canelo) but he just doesnt look intimidating. I never got the hype over Cole either but i only seen his new japan stuff tho.There are kids in my sons wrestling team that i would take over him in a fight.

He's been champion since AEW started, right? For people to claim that he's this must see generational talent who could follow in Austin and Rock's footsteps, when they've lost in the ratings 8 out of 10 times, and they haven't once beaten the AEW premiere number - even unopposed - makes the statement false from jump.
What more can they give him? I looked up his wikipedia just now. He's held every title in NXT already

You got to see what all the guys that are mentioned in the title had in common, and then look for another superstar in the current roster that also has all of those things. Usually that's going to mean mic skills, muscles, etc. A lot of the current guys have most of the criteria but not all of it.
