Upping this thread due to rewatching nWo era WCW and watching Hog/Road Wild 96-99 as a result

My observations:

Everyone in the thread is 100% correct on their criticisms of Bischoff/WCW. In Bischoff's book, he discusses Road Wild and basically bashes the IWC/Dirt Sheets and praises himself for "doing something different that hasn't been seen/done in wrestling before" (in the book he does this anytime he discusses anything he has been widely criticized over. You notice a pattern by the time Starrcade 1997 rolls around in the book)

How Bisch kept his job I'll never know.

Harlem Heat at this event is heartbreaking to watch in that sea of rednecks :sadcam:

Why the fukk would you have matches like Dean Malenko facing himself knowing the bikers would boo a technical match such as that? All those bikers prob wanted to see was Outsiders/Hogan and was like :camby: to everyone else

As stated earlier: the wrestlers and announcers hated Sturgis. The story about Heenan walking to the booth prior to the PPV is gold:

Heenan walks out. Crowd cheers, so he waves to the crowd. Dusty nudges him and whispers, "I thought you were a heel?" Heenan responds, "Not when we're stationary and they have rocks. When they cheer at us, we wave."

:dead:

People were LIVID at Hogan going over Luger at Road Wild 97. The crowd was throwing rocks and other stuff at the nWo and you can see a clearly upset Waltman and nWo who wanted to get the fukk out of there but couldn't cause of Hogan :russ:

Watched Hog Wild 96 on the Network earlier and it’s STILL uncomfortable watching Harlem Heat in that sea of rednecks. I believe the Network edited out all the :scust: cac fukkery as it pertained to this match

WCW learned their lesson somewhat by making Harlem Heat curtain jerk Road Wild 97 so they could wrestle, clean up, and dart the fukk out of Sturgis. Same with Rey and Konnan being the second match

I mean in a shortsighted, ridiculous mindset kind of way in terms of low budget. Can you imagine say, HHH going to Vince and going, lets have a PPV for thousands of teens at bonnaro? :dead:
The concept of hog wild > vinces pathetic attempt at making tuesday ppv's a thing

complain about a company offering up an event that people could attend for free brehs.

OP had too much time on his hands when he made this thread.

Vince is at least smart enough to try and stop the bleeding (budget cuts)

Bischoff would have thrown more money at it

the difference is, it wasn't bischoff's money.

of course, bischoff wasn't as frugal.

did no one at Turner realize "hey, eric just takes vinces big stars and runs with it.. I can do that"...

you can say that's all vince did as well.

he built the WWF off of big stars from other companies. Hogan, savage, you name em.

and hes been doing it again for the past 5 years now.

having leno in the matchw as a worse idea.

wcw wasn't a wrestling company, it was a tv company. gates at shows didn't mean as much to them as it did to the E because all they cared about was advertising dollars/ratings and ppv buys (ppv a SEPERATE company from WCW meaning none of the money wcw made in PPV even went tp their company)

long story short wcw was all fukked up but having road wild wasn't the WORST IDEA theye ver had... wasn't jay leno at that one.. that's worse and on the same card at that.

wcw is filled with stu[id decisions. how bischoff was seen as a good executive is crazy... no one has blown more opportunity and money...

bisch basically let Hogan run his own career which ran half of wcw and he sunk the rest.

did no one at Turner realize "hey, eric just takes vinces big stars and runs with it.. I can do that"... I mean really... they musta been so fed up with them rednecks that ran them for so long they were dying for a McMahon type and got screwed.lol
To be fair, you can make a case that's all Vince did when he went national

Every big star in the WWF in the 80s boom era were already huge established stars in other territories with the same gimmicks (Hogan, Savage, Piper, Junkyard Dog, Greg Valentine, The British Bulldogs, Butch Reed etc..) except for Ted Dibiase. All Vince did was give them national exposure.

Wcw problem was that they didn't know how to properly handle new money. They had new money with a redneck mindset.

Taboo Tuesday was a good idea. Maybe it bit premature for it's time, but a good idea nonetheless.
