Hypothesis:
Humans are hardwired to deal with physical threats, dangers & resource scarcity - via stress hormones and other mechanisms (flight/fight/freeze response).

This baseline anxiety is typically released through physical activity (labour, hunting, fighting, farming, etc.)

In absence of legitimate threats & scarcity (coupled with sedentary lifestyle), this anxiety is not released. Many strange results...

The threshold for what's considered a 'threat' or 'dangerous' becomes very low (or imaginary). People become 'soft' both mentally & physically.
