How sustainable is this, when there is no heir apparent and the charts remain full of albums from over a decade ago. Cole and Drake also have albums from years ago selling like crazy.

There's such an obvious, clear demand for rappers like that yet the industry is focused entirely on the next Carti with goth aesthetics. Yet despite all that pumping and amplifying...Ken Carson has less than 9mil monthly spotify listeners. A lot of these new dudes are not popping enough for labels to give a fukk, yet they have the label's predominant attention. What's going on.

:wow: an artist like Kendrick is rarely appreciated by the masses like this. He truly captured lighting in a bottle. This is for all the thoughtful artists that deserved but never saw this level of success.

Facts, people acting like Drake is mims right now
I think Drake could take a step back but the fact remains that his next album will do 350k+ and live on the charts. I think Cole took damage too but will still hit 300k+ first week. Carti still sells, Uzi still sells, Lil Baby can sell, Durk too, etc. There are a lot of successful rappers, sales wise. It's not just Travis and Kendrick.

If there's a problem it's that rappers after Drake/Cole/Kendrick haven't grown the way they should. Both Carti and Uzi's last albums were poorly received by many fans, as was Baby's last album. If you read the HDD article it details what Travis' team was doing behind the scenes to get him to #1. What is Uzi's team doing right now? Carti? Baby? Lot of dudes are just burning braincells on drugs and endless studio nights recording the same shyt over and over. And their teams aren't doing shyt about it.

Who will be er update the sales? What you mean
I'm saying Kendrick doesn't update his sales

Usually when artists have Gold, Platinum or Diamond records it's because they asked for their sales to be certified

Kendrick usually doesn't. He actually has a couple songs that have sold 9 million records (would be diamond if they were certified)but since he doesn't ask he won't get the plaque.

Its no mystery that Drake, Cole and Kendrick are also amongst the last rappers to garner any type of REAL artist development. Roc Nation put Cole on tour for damn near two years, building his fanbase. Drake toured extensively. Kendrick got some of the best promo an artist has ever gotten from Interscope. Even Big Sean and Kid Cudi got extensive development (mostly as ghostwriters for Kanye) before they popped off.

The only newer artist you could say got a form of artist development is JID, and we’ll see with his next album how that goes. He’s got a project with Metro and Metro is one of the hottest things smokin right now so he’s set up pretty good.

I’ll also say that Doechi seems to be getting a great form of artist development as well. Her next project should be the one to take her over the top.
