Yung Berg.... We didn't forget that character little guy.. Dude is a clown.

Hitboy addressed it though

He’s right about hitting rock bottom and figuring out how to not only bounce back but recapture where you left off. This happened to me and believe it or not I drew a lot of inspiration from 50 and The Rza.

I was never the biggest fan of Hit-Boy but when he dropped that Half a Mil project with Dom I started to pay attention. I’m really anticipating his solo now

Every MJ stan I’ve talked to irl talk about their love for him at first but then it always goes to numbers and how 30k people would show up to his hotel to see him or shyt like that. The conversation always segues to numbers

Every popular artist whose ever lived in the modern era can at some juncture point to numbers to back up their greatness. Its why their POPULAR artists.

Hell Nas fans can bring up numbers in support of his greatness. There’s literally only ONE other artist who debuted in the same era as Nas who does better numbers than him thirty years later.

There are OTHER factors besides sales numbers however that make a popular artist more than just popular. Factors that make them legends. Michael Jackson didn’t just sell a lot of records. He’s legitimately the most awarded artist in the history of entertainment (as certified by the Guinness Book Of World Records) he’s one of the few artists to be inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame TWICE. He’s the ONLY singer in the Dance Hall Of Fame. He’s the HIGHEST paid celebrity spokesman ever.

In contrast Nas is the first rap artist to have a fellowship in his name from Harvard University. He’s the oldest rapper to ever win a Grammy for Best Rap Album and holds the record for longest stretch of Best Rap Album nominations. In 2012 The Source ranked him #2 on their list of 50 greatest lyricists, only behind Rakim. In 2014 About.com ranked him number 1 on their list. Illmatic is one of only 12 rap albums archived in the Library Of Congress.

You forgot another Nas factoid: his bum ass continues to shun It Was Written like it never existed :unimpressed:

A big fukk you to him for continuing to act like one of the GOAT albums didn't happen and instead doing yet another tired celebration of Illmatic again :pacspit: .

I love illmatic but come on how many times can he rehash that shyt? Especially when he decided to hit another stratosphere on It Was Written :mindblown:

"Impact" as we know it is overrated.

Neither Jay nor Nas have a major impact on modern hip hop in comparison to Thugger, Wayne, and Keef but does that mean much?

Nas is 30 years in his career still dropping critically acclaimed albums, getting revered by rappers young and old, selling out MSG, getting top 10 albums, etc.

Snoop debuted a year before Nas and his albums make far less buzz than Nas. Ditto for Ice Cube. Ditto for Scarface. Ditto for Ghostface. And even many rappers who debuted long after him like 50 Cent, Camron, Jeezy, Nelly, Ludacris, Ja Rule, etc. aren't gaining more traction for their music than him. Even DMX's latest album failed to gain traction even after dropping right after his death which dominated the news worldwide.

Even the people who are more "relevant" than Nas aren't exactly having shining moments right now.

Ye turned into a MAGA racist c00n. Eminem hasn't dropped a good album since Relapse(some say TES). Drake hasn't dropped a good project since IYRTITL. Jay used Samsung to buy half the sales of 4:44 and hasn't dropped a solo album in 6 years. Kendrick takes long breaks in between albums and his last album was polarizing. Cole has musically been on auto pilot for more than half of his career. And a lot of these "hot" young rappers today are dropping microwave music that comes and goes before the year is over. Remember Lil Baby's album from October? Exactly. Literally no one talks about that shyt. At least KD3 has amazing raps and critical acclaim unlike Baby's album.

But I understand this conversaton is primarily driven by stans of a certain rapper who shall go unnamed who's currently Andre 3000 status: Getting hot off features and going more than half a decade without dropping a solo album. Both rappers are GOAT's though.
