Great thread. It's crazy how they hate us so much they are willing to make compromises with other races just to make sure we are positioned at the absolute bottom of the social economical ladder.

Skilled foreign workers generally do well no matter their county of origin though. It's ridiculous to compare a group of self-selected foreign professionals to a disenfranchised group of "indigenous" people who have a long history of being systemically oppressed and marginalized.
Even within the Asian community there is a huge disparity. Compare the Hmong refugees and the Japanese immigrant community and you'll find that the former is performing very poorly in terms of education, employment, income level etc..

The reason why Asian-Americans are more successful than us is because you're comparing a group of people that had the resources, determination, and drive to travel halfway across the world to build a new life, versus a group of people that were (ignoring the "we were already here" theory) shipped here en masse. Even if you took away slavery, Jim Crow, and other policies designed to subjugate us, it still wouldn't be an equal comparison. You can't compare people in the top 10% of their race, to a slice of another race that goes from top to bottom.
There are a billion+ poor Asians in their homeland that are just as uneducated and non-enterprising as poor black people. But the 10-20M that make it over to the US are the ones that we are measured against. That's an unfair comparison, even before you factor in racism.
Asians(specifically Jap./Korean) generally surpass every other group of immigrants when it comes to education levels,income levels,etc. These other groups are sending their resourceful,determined, driven top 10% here also. How would you explain this?

Korean/Japanese may be the most successful, but Indians, Arabs, Africans, Cubans, are all coming over here and doing better than the average American (black or white). But a ton of people in their homelands are poor as f**k.
Also factor in that Japan and Korea are countries that were propped up by the US after wars. The US spent a ton of money investing in their infrastructure and helping build industries. That led to a class of wealth and business culture that doesn't exist in other countries that people immigrate from.
I don't think that immigrant groups are generally doing better than the average American. The rare ones that probably do significantly better than the average American are Koreans,Japanese,Nigerians,Indians, & jews from various countries(when it comes to test scores,education level,etc) The rest of the immigrants to this country probably aren't doing better than Americans.
What those successful groups have in common are cultures that promote education. Free public education and social mobility are things that exist here that do NOT exist in many parts of the word. So people have access to resources here that they do not have back home.Parents didn't come here and make sacrifices for their kids to NOT take full advantage of the opportunities available here.
I don't buy the idea that US occupation of Korea/Japan had much impact on the tenets of their cultures that promote success. What country has the US NOT occupied at some point? What was the net result of the country for the inhabitants?When you see how Japan and Germany were humiliated after WW2....only to become strong economic powerhouses after US occupation...it says more about the identity/culture of those people than anything else.
