I don’t cheer the accomplishments of random
Black people the same way I don’t take the fault for a crime that a random Black person commits. We are individuals. I hate “we”.
Do you think that it benefits Black children to see Black people publicly succeed?
They grow up in a world where they are bombarded with negative imagery, news stories, and propaganda about people who look like them and from where they're from. Some may start to think that this is who and what they are, as well.
The Black firsts stories are a counter to that, expanding their views of what Black individuals can do.
Judge Ketanji has two parents who were attorney/judge and educator/principal, and
even she says that she drew inspiration from seeing a Black first in the media.
Let her know that it was possible for her to achieve.
We see the worst behaviors, worst people from our communities on full media display 24/7. Why wouldn't people applaud to see those who represent the best values succeed publicly?
