Hip hop journalist DJ Akademiks tells Adam22 that Kendrick Lamar is the reason west coast hip hop has not progressed

What's holding the west coast back is the vast majority of the rappers being absolutely wack. I don't mean in a, "Its cool but not for me" the way someone might feel about e40 or Tha Eastsidaz or even Larry June. I'm talking about everyone doing that same wack as fukk offbeat flow.

There's an Instagram page that covers news and ratchet shyt happening in my City. "THESE BADDIES WERE THROWING IT IN A CIRCLE IN FRONT OF THE TONY GWYNN STATUE... IS THIS LIT OR NAH?" That type of shyt.

Anyway this page has been around for something like ten years and they'll regularly post local rappers and I am not exaggerating when I say that every single rapper they have posted has been absolute trash.

A lot of this criticism also comes from the fact that Kendrick doing the Pop Out is what Drake and Cole been doing for years with their own festivals. Except Kendrick stans acted like Kendrick is doing this amazing benevolent thing for his city that's never been done before.

The only reason Kendrick decided to do it now was to do a victory lap over Drakes corpse and he used everyone to solidify the victory with numbers. If it was about putting on for the LA scene, like Kenny stans insisted, we would have seen Kendrick more involved with the Problem, YG, Mustard albums that came and went. But Kendrick clearly just don't care unless it benefits him. Dude gave Lecrae a shoutout before anyone at that show and it's all because Lecrae mentioned him in an interview.

OVO fest had a concert with a lineup of all Toronto artists like the day or 2 before the day Drake has his actual concert
