Good podcast overall. I would liked to have jumped in to take issue with ZeroZero's position on neo-atheism. I think what Richard Dawkins, Hitchens and the rest do is needed in a country where 50% of people still believe in creationism and school districts are changing textbooks and curricular to introduce Christian teachings.

Yeah, but I think that we were making a point that didn't exactly relate the Neo-Atheists to Fundamentalist Christianity. If we were, I would have spoken up in a more direct defense of the movement than I did.

can't get hulkshare to work, can I use another uploading site, like mediafire?

something they can stream from and that can be embedded in the blog... mediafire only hosts DL links

let me PM you the podomatic login see if you can get it up there

we're running out of space on podomatic though so we're going to have to figure out a long term solution within the next couple episodes.. maybe we can continue to use podomatic and archive the previous episodes on archive.org

itunes just takes an xml file containing the episode description and mp3 link and pulls them down

you still have to host the mp3 file somewhere and create the update xml file

our podomatic actually generates a feed for itunes already

so the three things we want is;

1) host a ton of audio (each episode is like 1-2 hours) for free
2) embedded player
3) itunes / podcast feed

(1) can be done on archive.org they'll host it forever
(2) can be done with podomatic, soundcloud etc but those guys charge $$$ for hosting audio. I think we can put a bunch of files on hulkshare though they have a streaming player as well. Not to mention we can put it on youtube but I don't want to generate and upload the huge video files needed to put it on youtube
(3) is a tough one, podomatic generates the feed but if we host elsewhere maybe we can get a feed for the wordpress category from the coli blog that itunes can read

See I didn't grow up thinking creationism and evolution are necessarily contrary to each other (they're kinda different spheres of thought) so maybe that's why I don't see why protecting science textbooks requires abrogating everyone's faith. I mean the Catholic church is happy to believe in evolution too right, so there's something very American about this particular strand of young earth "men rode on dinosaurs" creationism

Intelligent design got very forceful pushback when they were putting it .. man it's been a while which school board was it.. even overruled by a court. The 10 commandments in front of a court fiasco was another example of strong pushback. Keeping science focused on evidence and maintaining the first amendment separation of church/state has broad support in the country. Especially cause there are multiple faiths and sects so in the end you can't pick which version (jewish? christian? jehovah's witness?) to be pushing.

If keeping evolution out of textbooks requires on the other hand attacking the faith of everyone in such a coalition you're creating a very small group of hardcore empiricists vs everyone else

Now a new atheist might say, well, if that's what's required we'll start a small movement and grow it. My other point there was that there's really no such thing as a pure Reason-based philosophy. Social behavior is eventually judgement based and arbitrary. Take religion out of the picture (as it is in most of the discussions people have on contentious matters) and you still have the same types of beefs and human behaviors remaining

My bigger beef with them of course is their ventures into transnational social commentary. They're just not qualified or understand what goes on in world societies. And so even if you're an uncompromising atheist the fact that you're a white british male can create blind spots. To wit, something I read a few minutes ago on here:

The two best cases for war in Iraq and hawkishnes in the middle east I've read were from Christopher Hitchens and Sam Harrris.

I think maybe my name shows as LiquidLaser80 on skype, not LiquidLaser. It shows just LiquidLaser with no 80 on my screen, but ask zerozero how it shows up to others.

lol I had a strange exchange with TUH last night , he's convinced he had some right to get on in the last 10 minutes and we were scuttling his chances. Next time buddy.
