I don't know what you're discussing with the other poster but you have beef with an atheist weighing in on international politics? Non-british non-white female natives create less blindspots?

certainly minority muslim women would be a better source for understanding concerns about women's rights in islam which these dudes always want to talk about, sure. more backgrounds create better informational context. If I just sat here saying what AA people should live like all day it'd be credible to point out that I don't really know how their lives and communities work. Same with this. How many people ranting about Libya these days could point these countries out on a map before?? I literally saw Dawkins fly into India, see Salman Rushdie not present something because of threats, go back to the UK and type some nonsense that didn't understand India at all and tried to tie that event to a bunch of random events. Just a few months later Rushdie came back and presented fine as he usually does. There really is a lack of perspective talking about the planet when you don't know about it.

You could've kept both of them upped. Apparently back and forth heated arguments and dudes getting sonned gets more attention and people talking than calm, insightful discussion, just like the mainstream media.

yeah I was going to say, we didn't have the few people who tend come in here after a podcast and comment, not sure why.. it's even been on the sidebar for a while

btw maybe we should try to keep it to an hour maybe that'd help both participants and listeners

I disagree with most of that but I don't see what any of that has to do with your quote of me. Hitchens arguments was on American foreign policy where he has expertise, Harris argument was about general liberal bytchassness. They happened to be atheist but I don't see what that has to do with anything. And certainly their race and background doesn't mean they are any less qualified than an Edward Said type in discussing those topics.

noooooooooooooo

Maybe it's just me but I enjoy the 2 to 3 hour podcast. Could just be me though.

Listening to this right now.

:whew:You guys weren't lying about TrueEpic dude was droppin heat. I liked how Broke Wave was bringing up contrary points to the things you guys were saying. Vic is a good host. Gonna check out a Dawkins book if anyone has a suggestion. Zero is cool. Judging from this podcast and the last one it kind of sounds like you have one foot out and one foot in.

Podcast was cool looking forward to the next one.

Thanks. Yeah I thought #8 was one of the most intellectually robust episodes we've had so far. Dudes getting sonned for thinking states have 3 Senators and not knowing how the Senate works seems to do more numbers though, lol. Sort of like how Hardball gets better ratings than Bill Moyers on PBS.

:russ: True true. Slys video and thread that you guys made was what made me want to check it out. Then his post I wanted to see how the debates would happen when you guys were actually talking. Either way is good though :obama:

Finished the last one and the main thing I disagreed with you guys on was Chief Keef.

It wasn't to clear who you guys were speaking against. Was it Iovine? Keef? The consumer? Or the image?

basically Broke was vaguely in defense of the music and saying attention on Keef deflects from the real problems, Vic and TrueEpic were arguing against him and I was kinda zoned out except pointing out that the same concern I had expressed in the booth earlier

I want to talk about the artists vs labels vs audience angle of this

He's saying the labels are pushing gangsta rap, but Jimmy gravitated to controversy in rock and other genres too

the question is, if the audience is buying it, is Jimmy more to blame than the artist who's actually making the tracks?

I mean, when 'they' try to shut down gangsta rap, it's cause 'they' don't get it right? "you're too old to understand the way the game's told" . but "they" run the label and it's their fault now.

you know what I'm saying? you can't have it both ways where the establishment is hating on rappers and the establishment is pushing the rappers.

frankly the origin point of the problem is the consumer, but the artist as well, then the label

TrueEpic had a good quick response to this though which is to say the consumer is going to listen to whatever is made a hit in front of them so the label/industry is also kinda pushing consumer taste in a certain way
