I'm big on history, politics, law, etc. but I'll try to keep my recommendations general. Also do you have any other recommendations OP?
- For success/business, psychology, etc. you should check out the Great Courses if you have an audible account, if not go to their website. They pretty much have everything.
- The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander is really good (if you've already seen the Netflix documentary the 13th, then you have a good primer).
- Medical Apartheid by Harriet Washington was really informative (as mentioned by another poster)
- The Mis-Education of the Negro by Carter Goodwin Woodson is a must, especially for young adults.
- Gun Fight by Adam Winkler is probably one of the best primers out for for those interested in gun rights/control in America (I actually suggested it to one of my former professors as an auxiliary to his one of his courses. He liked it so much made it required reading).
- If you're into A.I then Our Final Invention by James Barrat and Superintelligence by Nick Bostrom are really good (Bostrom's book is better, but much denser)
Others (that I haven't read):
- Mastery by Robert Greene ~ I hear this is his best book, but obviously I haven't read it
- White Rage by Carol Anderson ~ heard it was insightful about to the "whitelash" that follows anytime the black community makes progress.
- The Beautiful Struggle and Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates ~ Coates is a fantastic writer, even people who disagree with some of his points can appreciate him.
- Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil DeGrasse Tyson ~ not out yet (pre-ordered), it's the next book that my girl and myself plan on reading together.
