hi-5 is one of those groups that gets overlooked & forgotten. it kind of reminds me of the Oldhead 70s groups like the Dells, LTD, the Delfonics .. that prolly arent as popular with my generation as the Jackson 5, Earth, Wind & Fire or The Isley Bros.

Props on this thread cause I dont watch cable so i had no idea this was happening

i think the problem is that as time goes by, only a handful of acts from each era are consistently acknowledged by the media and such(some un-deserving, but we'll save that for another time), which renders even some of the extremely popular groups like hi-five to be non-existant to newer listeners who just know what theyre fed. thats the premise of this show actually. the reason why "unsung" is goat status.

HOUSTON - A former member of the 1990s R&B group Hi-Five has been arrested and charged with murder in the stabbing death of his wife in Houston.

Police say 40-year-old Russell Neal walked into a sheriff's office on Wednesday and told authorities his wife was dead at their home. Police say he was arrested and made no further comment.

Court records show he remained jailed Friday on a $100,000 bond on a murder complaint. He's scheduled to appear in court Monday. Records don't list an attorney.

Houston police say 24-year-old Catherine Martinez was stabbed multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.

KSFM, a radio affiliate of CBS, reports the couple's two children - ages 3 and 4 - are currently in the custody of the suspect's mother.

"They seemed like a happy couple," Raymond Batiste, a neighbor, told CBS affiliate KHOU. "All of a sudden... it's a shock."

Bronx Most Wanted Entertainment, a group that currently represents Hi-Five, released a statement saying Neal is a former member and isn't part an upcoming recording project.

The group's hits include, "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)."

so russell neal was the bul i didnt care for. he always looked out-of-place. i think he was the one that left the group so he could go to school. he looked like he wasnt really into it.

i wonder if this happened too late to be mentioned on the doc. he should be in it too, cuz him and the tall one were the only ones that were there thru the entire run of the 1st 2 albums(besides tony - rip).

speaking of the tall one, he was there the whole time, and is still in the group now. i never knew his name. just referred to him as juwan howard.

Are there any original members still in the group? According to Wikipedia it's 5 totally different people, if that's true how would they still be hi-five? I know Wikipedia is suspect sometimes so maybe it's wrong

i think wikipedia might be referring to that hi-five group that tony thompson came back with in 2004. besides the group was a revolving door to begin with, so alot of the hi-five stuff that we love, technically wasnt the original hi-five.

but yea, as for the current group thats on the road, its mostly o.g. members. the juwan howard look-a-like is STILL there, the bul that did 10 or 15 years in prison is back in the group, and they take the homie Pooh on the road with them so technically hes still in the group as well. and i recognize at least one of the other dudes from their '93-94 run. EDIT: i dont know where i got the bolded parts from. smh.

and its basically treston irby's group now. he wasnt original but hes been there since the kissing game video, and was the only other good solo singer they had besides tony.

i just realized something.

the reason why tv-one didnt do a hi-five commercial might be because of russell neal. hes probably giving alot of commentary in this.

and i'll definitely be proving right if they do a commercial for next week's artist. cuz all theyve been showing was the general commercial. not even acknowledging hi-five.
