The commentators are old-school wrestling with the play-by-play and the color, but in particular because the XFL broadcasts the offense's playcall, so the play-by-play guy is literally talking about the coming play, what it will likely be, who is running what route, etc. Meanwhile, the color guy is talking about micro-stories, be it between the QB and the coach, or WR/DB, etc.
Plus the immediate interviews after big plays that swing momentum - you got guys breathing heavy after exertion getting asking halfway stupid questions that they then have to freestyle answers to on the spot.
Which says nothing of the fact that the whole product is very clearly designed to be a midcard professional football offering - I said it a couple times today, but I can't get off it: Vince really went out and made the Intercontinental Title equivalent of the NFL. The not-quite-ready-for-primetime types can compete in there with the guys who washed out and the ones who never got a chance because life didn't go there way, and it's either the landing spot for people whose names you've heard in the NFL but who disappeared to quietly fade off, try and get themselves back in, or generally just serve as names for the new guys coming up to embarrass on a play or two to further their own personal legacy.
It's ironic that Vince basically went out and made NXT for the NFL. But... this is basically what he did, and it's kinda cool, especially for those dudes from D3 schools and shyt who were really good but never got the look. But also for all those folk who love football but never got the chance or didn't quite have what it took to compete at the All-World level of the NFL.
I'm personally loving it because today's game had two black QBs win, and considering the number of those who get told they need to change positions before getting to the NFL because 'black athleticism' or whatever... it's cool to see. Hell, even BJ Daniels went in for a bit, and dude was drafted by SF, ended up in SEA and got changed from a QB to a WR by them because... reasons. Seeing him in there as a QB, even in the XFL, made me happy for him.
