There's so much fukking wrestling psychology in how this was put together, it's so goddamned blatant if you know wrestling :russ:

Props to cokeboy for knowing his lane, and willingly making himself the midcard of Football. Not everyone can be the NFL - not everyone can win a World title... but I'll be damned if there isn't a place for a good Intercontinental-tier organization

The rules for this league are great and definitely better than the NFL’s rules by far.

Vince has already committed enough money to keep the league afloat for 3 years so it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. If the ratings can stay relatively decent, they’ll get a long term TV deal that will pay for the expenses. Also the games being on Fox, ABC, and ESPN are huge. Immediately gives them credibility.

It may just work.

The commentators are old-school wrestling with the play-by-play and the color, but in particular because the XFL broadcasts the offense's playcall, so the play-by-play guy is literally talking about the coming play, what it will likely be, who is running what route, etc. Meanwhile, the color guy is talking about micro-stories, be it between the QB and the coach, or WR/DB, etc.
Plus the immediate interviews after big plays that swing momentum - you got guys breathing heavy after exertion getting asking halfway stupid questions that they then have to freestyle answers to on the spot.

Which says nothing of the fact that the whole product is very clearly designed to be a midcard professional football offering - I said it a couple times today, but I can't get off it: Vince really went out and made the Intercontinental Title equivalent of the NFL. The not-quite-ready-for-primetime types can compete in there with the guys who washed out and the ones who never got a chance because life didn't go there way, and it's either the landing spot for people whose names you've heard in the NFL but who disappeared to quietly fade off, try and get themselves back in, or generally just serve as names for the new guys coming up to embarrass on a play or two to further their own personal legacy.

It's ironic that Vince basically went out and made NXT for the NFL. But... this is basically what he did, and it's kinda cool, especially for those dudes from D3 schools and shyt who were really good but never got the look. But also for all those folk who love football but never got the chance or didn't quite have what it took to compete at the All-World level of the NFL.

I'm personally loving it because today's game had two black QBs win, and considering the number of those who get told they need to change positions before getting to the NFL because 'black athleticism' or whatever... it's cool to see. Hell, even BJ Daniels went in for a bit, and dude was drafted by SF, ended up in SEA and got changed from a QB to a WR by them because... reasons. Seeing him in there as a QB, even in the XFL, made me happy for him.

I've been entertained by this Roughnecks/LA game. The rules changes most definitely varies it up. The kickoffs instantly threw me for a loop. TDECU stadium had a very nice turnout as well.

Watched a few games... simple observations

games have a feel of college football teams that you have no rooting interest in. Sure it’s football and you can see some good plays etc. but there’s no investment :yeshrug:

The rules make it fresh. Two timeouts is kinda dumb but going for extra points with a regular play is kinda dope :ehh: the kickoff is safer and different but with that much congestion it’s unlikely to ever see a kick return for a touchdown (for those that don’t know both teams except for the kicker and returner line up about 10 yards apart near the returner and can’t move until he catches the ball)

One thing that threatens the long term viability of the league is that it’s a single owner. Vince will need to give up control and sell the teams so that they can actually compete. If the rosters are all being paid by the same entity, there won’t be any long term growth (think strategy with off seasons, free agency, in season trades, etc)

Overall it was good. Not as many B level talent as I thought there would be but it was good football. I do feel though that having it a week after the super bowl is a mistake. I was genuinely interested but I felt like it was meaningless so near to the most meaningful game of the NFL.
