Clarke ethered Gates and his ilk a long time ago.

I remember that a group of scholars set up a debate with Gates in Harvard, and he backed out at the last minute. I think they covered the story on "Like It Is" (GREAT weekly show that used to air in NYC market on Sundays when I was growing up). I have never been able to find a news article about the details, but I think I remember the story correctly.

Academics will be academics, I don’t assume he’s going to be a Black liberation leader, I just need him to produce good works, teach critical thought to students at Harvard, and continue to uphold Black writing as gold.
