Basically I'm just looking to lose 20pds.

I'm 5'1 155. I actually feel good about my weight. I'm not little but I'm not :flabbynsick: either.

Recent issues with my gallbladder is why my doc suggested I get my weight down.

About my habits:

Other than sex, I don't exercise.
Wait, I live in NY, no car so I walk everywhere. That counts as exercise too.

I eat pretty good. Cook everything fresh. No boxed food. No canned food. Salads daily. Veggies every night with dinner. Can't remember the last time I had fast food. No soda, no juice. Water and occasional liquor. For snacks I'll have a Kashi granola bar, or a bowl of cereal.

Definitely dont deprive myself from sweets(chocolate:ohlawd: ) I let myself have 1 sweet a day. Usually after dinner. Maybe 2 cookies OR a scoop of iceream OR a candybar.

Decided to start jogging on the track near my house tommorow. Start off with just 30min then work my way up to a hour.

Any tips or suggestions?

*Side note*

I'm not into all those crazy diets or cleanses, or any of that. I'm too fat for that. I love food toomuch.

sounds like you eat pretty healthy. shouldn't be to hard to drop weight if you stick to a cardio routine.

just be careful of high calorie foods like alcohol and chocolate. i think one chocolate bar amount of candy per day is too much.

eat less meat too. and remember results will take months, so stick to it.

start counting calories

off the top of my head if you stay under 1500 for the day youll probably lose weight, get as much protein as possible within that range

i suggest you talk with @Mi Rawtid on what shes doing(she follows my guide)

Control your portions, there's nothing wrong with eating, but don't go back for seconds and if you know you're going to have a big dinner eat lighter leading up to it.

People think fast food is a big issue when really it's the portions associated with it, and while you may not eat FF I'm going to guess you eat pasta and breads.

I'm 5-4, with short limbs

I would say that you first track what your resting metabolic rate is and what you eat normally (you can use apps like myfitnesspal or fatsecret, which will ask you questions to help with this).

After a few days of tracking, see if your normal diet and portions are going over your daily calorie limit. If it is, then adjust what you eat accordingly.

I tell most of my female friends who aren't a fattie, but want to lose some squish to up their lean protein and water, and reduce the sweets, and they usually see some progress within a month.

If jogging is your thing and it makes you feel good, then you can do that. I hate jogging, so I'll do some HIIT sessions on other cardio machines for 15-20 mins around once or twice a week and be done with it.

I mostly lift heavy free weights for caloric burn, and eat a high protein, low starch diet. Progress always turns out nicely if I'm consistent with it.

Im not talking those big Hersheys bar chocolates. I'm talking maybe a twix or a kit kat bar.

As far as meat, I only eat chicken and seafood.

Whole wheat pasta and bread I'll only have once a week.

I have a weakness for(white) rice. I have to have it everyday. Can't do the brown rice. Tried it, couldn't stick with it.

Portions are the issue then, Asian people eat white rice as well, they have smaller portions. Just control your intake and you should start losing weight just off of that. If you're not gaining or losing right now, then logically cutting back on the portions a bit should have immediate impact.

Like most everyone else has said it's not just an issue of what you're eating but moreso how much. Excess calories are excess calories whether they're coming from white rice, veggies, kashi snacks or chocolate bars. Aware yourself about the portions you consume. When you make chicken look at the weight you're preparing and look up how many calories that comes out to. When you make white rice take note of how much you're simmering. A half cup? A cup? I found fatsecret to be very helpful. And when you're a creature of habit like I am once you have an idea of how many calories and macros are in the things you consume regularly you won't have to look them up every time.

My man dropped racks on racks eating fast food on the reg :lawd: the gawd

Edit- rockstar props on being proactive about it though. Check mmsex's sticked thread at the top of the forum about understanding better how macros and calories work.

Invest in a food scale. I've been weighing everything and it has really helped me get a better idea of what a portion should be. Like the bowl of cereal you say you eat is probably 2 times what an actual portion is.

Also you should switch to protein rich foods. If I eat cereal, it's Special K protein plus cereal, I've managed to stay away from other ones. Oh and I also eat Greek Yogurt...I put it in the freezer about an hour and a half before I leave work and it's like eating ice cream (to me) because Greek yogurt has a smoother consistency. I follow MM's plan in only eating food that has a calorie to protein ratio less than 20. The protein helps you stay full longer. Nature Valley also has a protein bar w/i ratio that's pretty good.
