That's true that a lot of Netflix movies appear low budget and that's not because they don't spend. They actually spend A LOT of money on these shows and movies but there's three things going on...

1. They don't have the built in relationships with actors/actresses and writers that HBO/WB does

2. They don't have the sets/staging and production designers

3. They are trying to rush shyt out there which results in cheaper effects and low grade scripts

Came across this detailed Reddit breakdown of HBO's built-in production advantage compared to Netflix & Amazon. It's why HBO shows have that movie-esque gloss/sheen compared to other shows:

Makes sense. I’ve been pretty impressed with the quality of the Max Originals as well. I could actually see titles like Love Life S2, Station Eleven, and Peacemaker airing on HBO.

Miss this show, it was really slept on when it premiered. Captured the griminess of 70s NYC perfectly and didn’t sugarcoat the horrors of the porn industry.

yea...it was an honest look at sex work which is absolutely needed in these times

wasn't surprised it was slept on (it was a David Simon show after all)...but the Franco shyt coming out didn't help either
