Terence Winter Exits 'The Batman' TV Spinoff at HBO Max (Exclusive) | Hollywood Reporter

Terence Winter is leaving Gotham City.

The Boardwalk Empire creator, who was poised to write and serve as showrunner on Matt Reeves' TV spinoff of The Batman has departed the HBO Max series. Sources say creative differences are to blame for the split as Winter's vision for the drama did not match what Reeves and other producers had in mind. A search is under way for a new showrunner for the untitled drama.

Uh oh :patrice:

That's what I want to know. at first I was :francis: but then I read his beef was with Reeves and...I'm kinda okay with that? :ehh:
I'm trying to think what it could be because Reeves wants a more real world type of universe and I would think that would be right up Winter's alley.

I believe Terry Winter is also developing a show about the Mafia Cops. It really could just be he wants to dedicate more time to that than this.
Great writer tough loss but plenty of good writers out there.

I wonder where the differences were between Winter and Reeves?

Reeves: You can use Batman, early in his career and make this shyt super official. Let's get it, breh! :gladbron::blessed::feedme:

Winter: I'm good, fam - how about a dry police procedural which has nothing to do with Batman at all, maybe even with a bunch of villains in the wrong timeframe too. Nothing like that has ever been done before :gladbron::blessed::feedme:

Reeves: :mjcry:

I can see this becoming another Pennyworth. A show which probably wouldn't have been made if not for the Batman connection, but it plays really fast and loose with everything about the Batman universe.

Matt Reeves: Batman Series Changes From Gotham PD After Creative Issue - Variety

Reeves said the original plan for the Gotham PD series was to take inspiration from Sidney Lumet’s “Prince of the City” and center the show on a corrupt Gotham cop. The series was set one year before “The Batman,” as the Gotham police force must reckon with the emergence of Batman and its own corruption.

“It wasn’t going to be a Batman story, it was going about about this corrupt cop,” Reeves said. “And it was going to be about how the worst gang in Gotham were the GCPD. And [the cop] was going to come across paths, he would have touched paths with Gordon who would have been — it would have been someone to measure him against. But it would be a battle for [the cop’s] soul.”

Reeves said the idea was “super cool, [but] they didn’t not like the idea, they just wanted to center a show on a character who was more — I get it,” alluding to the studio’s desire to center the show on a less corrupted protagonist. “So I was like, ok. So maybe someday we’ll do that show.”

Every time you think WB is starting to get it, they do shyt like this
