Michaels had to come back in 2002 because he didn't have enough money nor was his career stacked enough compared to true legends. That's really nothing to be proud of. Him and Cripple H had a bad falling out in 2001. Don't know about him coming back that year but things got shaky but apparently got straightened out post WM 18. He wasn't getting as high or as fukked up as usual and did the Christian thing so he could try to absolve himself of his past despicable decision making.
