Hard to say either of these guys worked the other, when both were such marks for themselves and the business at the time. By all accounts they both treated their gimmicks like they were 100% real at the time.

Definitely. I remember as a kid, wondering why they hated each other so much. Or at least I saw it in a very one dimensional light.
But then I hate my late teens, early twenties. Youthful ego and testosterone starts kicking in. Now I fukking get it. They're both the same. Young, small, good looking baby faces that are popular with women. Therefore ultra competitive.
This episode literally is playing on my Network 
Both promotions had damn near year long builds. Obviously Sting and Hogan, and WWF/E had Bret/HBK fall into their laps cause of their real life hatred of each other. Both made history (one for the absolute wrong reasons, I’ll let you figure that one out) and we were lucky to experience the year 1997 in all three promotions.
