I don’t think you understood the topic we never met the brands destroyed modern wrestling were talking about the influence seeing guys doing that stuff and then wanting to one up them, but they didn’t take the charm of what the older guys did just the crazy stunts without reason behind them.

I don't think modern wrestling is ruined... but I do think the spotlight is shined on the crazier and wackier stuff rather than the basics like good storylines, good characters and etc. As insane as ECW was Paul Heyman was great at making that federation have a mixture of everything (lucha libre, japanese strong style, technical mat style, hardcore, great characters, memorable storylines, sexy skanky valets, managers, etc) so there was something for everyone.

Honestly maybe that's the main issue.... there is not enough variety in modern wrestling shows for the different kinds of fans and marks to collectively enjoy. Everybody wants everything to be the same and not want anything different which leads to different kinds of stannery and "mark wars" amongst the wrestling community. At the same time wrestling writers today can't think (or are not allowed to think) outside the box and keep on trying to use old tactics that worked back in the day that wouldn't work today because they won't change with the times.

To end my random juelzing... ECW and lucha libre influences is fine but just in moderation.

Managers is one thing I miss. I understand it from a business perspective, why pay a wrestler to do the wrestling and a manager to do the talking when you can hire a wrestler to do both? I feel like guys like The Rock really changed the game in that regard when he started doing Hollywood stuff.

Obviously, you still have some, but not nearly as many and they are much less of a factor as they used to. Now it's just force everyone to do their own talking even if they have little to no hope of ever being good at it.

Imagine giving some of these Japanese studs that don't know English or don't speak it very well a manager and give them a good run in some American promotion. Between their in-ring mastery and a good talking manager, they would be over as hell.

I feel like had Vince gave Nakamura a manager or someone to speak for him he would have made him a 5x heavyweight champion at this point :mjcry:

shyt like look at this Takeshyta guy. AEW crowd fukking loves him after two TV matches, and he's said like one short sentence in AEW. Give that guy a good face manager and he'd be a superstar in AEW.

Nakamura would probably be #1 on my list of remaining WWE guys that would probably be better off in AEW than WWE. And yes I have a mental list (I'm not some weirdo that has these lists actually written lol) for AEW guys that would probably be better off in WWE. Nakamura was probably my favorite NXT wrestler ever.

Ecw is my favorite wrestling promotion ever. I didn't get hardcore TV in Denver..we got the ppvs and later tnn..but I read every wrestling magazine and traded tapes.

Lucha and every example used in this thread, isn't really what ruined wrestling..
It actually isn't ruined..i enjoy gimmicks and storylines...but wrestling to me was all about the action to me...bumps botches..feats of strength...death defying stunts...

That episode of South Park..wtf..was so accurate and ahead of it's time..but also..every promotion promotion has it's flaws..comedic and otherwise..I can agree with the no selling, and overly choreographed matches..here and there..Im more likely to watch bdwj highlights than people talking about what they are going to do...now that doesn't mean match after match with the same people either.. balance is key

No, it didn't ruin it, it injected new styles for wrestlers to integrate new moves as Professional Wrestling was getting stale.

Now in terms of the negatives...
  • For Extreme Wrestling: While its cool hardcore elements are used, I feel like for 'spots' now, they feel totally staged. Like say when you take 4-5 minutes to light a table on fire for a spot. No, you just don't do that. If your going to go hardcore, do it naturally, like throwing a person from the Hell in a Cell from the side into a table... or attacking with a chair. Too many indy shows get too blatant where its just for internet clicks.
  • Lucha Libre: The biggest gripe I have with Lucha Libre, is that wrestlers rush too quickly. They don't take their time, and it makes the move look sloppy and dangerous. When I think of Lucha, I think of WCW's style, it was still high flying but slower yet still exciting. Just too many wrestlers these days just get hurt, or hurt others when your breaking the first rule... protect you and your partner in the ring.
