Was listening to Melo talk about how passing up money for winning is not for everybody and couldn’t help but think about how Dwade is probably the best example of this
Dwade took less money on every contract for the greater good of the team. It still worked out for him because he won his rings and is on the short pantheon of greats
But still that’s gotta sting that a top 3 player during his prime was never at any point the highest paid on his own team. Dude was the face of the entire city and couldnt even make the most on his own team?
Even worse he opted out of his contract to allow Bron to resign and Bron left him holding the bag. Didn’t even clue him in on the plans…and Riley decided to throw the bag at Bosh while Wade had to settle for a contract worth 10 mil less than the one he opted out of
Then two years later Riley bypasses Dwade again to throw the bag at Hassan Whiteside…causing him to leave the team.
Its gotta be extra painful for Dwade because he saw the Lakers give a broken down Kobe a full max contract then he turns around and gets a lowball offer after making sacrifices his entire career for the org.
This is exactly why Melo was right in the end. You don’t leave money on the table because these teams are going to simply expect you to do it everytime.
Dwade has rings but you can still see him burning up inside when he talks about it
