Has The MCU EVER Been Able To Do "Super" / Cosmic Super Powers Based Stories and CGI Properly?

The MCU has gone cosmic and people are generally disappointed.

It just struck me that the MCU has always had a problem telling cosmic stories.

Even Infinity War focused on the characters and had to "overspend" to get the cosmic stuff looking right. Right?

In Phase 4 many think that Loki, Wanda Vision and (so far) Ms. Marvel are near the top.

Loki didn't have much action and did best in ep 6, which was mostly talking.

Ms. Marvel has had minimal action, but the action scenes so far are some of the worst parts of the show.

Wanda Vision fell apart (in terms of quality) when the all out fighting started.

Even going further back people will name Iron Man, GoTG, CW, TWS, Avengers I as some of the best and they are mostly non-cosmic. Even Avengers one had relatively little "power blob wavy hand CGI" type stuff. In CW scarlet witch focused on using her powers to affect real world things (knife, bury vision, cars) with minimal CGI blobs.

Dr. Strange I went more tactile and kinetic based with how the powers worked with only one real "energy blob power CGI" scene - Strange vs. Dormammu. That has changed and Strange is far more "hand wavy power CGI blob" now.

Given that Avengers aside people have complained about poor CGI it might be a fundamental problem that it's not possible to make everything look good without Avengers level money. This notion bolstered by them using animation in their most cosmic D+ show (What IF); a show designed to flesh out the MCU cosmic and the multiverse.

Given that the MCU (inc Xmen/FF) is going to be increaingly cosmic is this a concern?

Biggest problem to me is that special effects look worse and fake nowadays even though the technology is superior now. Doesn't make sense
It's because they're cranking out content at breakneck speed.
As long as it keeps selling they have no incentive to do otherwise.
shyt, in half these scenes the actors arent even filming at the same time :heh:
Theyre turning into the McDonald's of movie making.

Noticing their VFX work has been slacking a bit recently due to the mass amount of projects produced within the years. Had Jane’s mask morphed all into her face at last night’s screening.

Natalie Portman told Entertainment Weekly that “Thor: Love and Thunder” has one of the most visually stunning scenes she’s ever seen on film, and it just so happens to have been shot in a random Best Buy parking lot. How’s that for movie magic? The “Black Swan” Oscar winner isn’t revealing just yet which scene in the film it is, but she said she can’t watch the movie without being reminded of Best Buy.

they introduced stage craft software in the films for Thor LAT

maybe that played a role

over-reliance on stage craft can rob a film of wide cinematic shots / scenes and longer cuts

for example that Leia chase scene in Obi-Wan is said to to look like way because it was done on a relatively small stage craft stage.

Too many movies are over reliant on green screen CGI to the point it looks way too fake now

have you seen Thor LAT yet? there is a certain scene in that where comicdom would have expected a lot more visually. instead we got a glorified movie poster.

and that quite apart from the "logic" of that scene.

if you have seen it you will know what I mean.

saying that it worked for mandalorian but maybe because that was only a TV show.

didn't for for boba fett tho .. .

hjmmm

I’m a big fan of its usage in The Mandalorian but some of the camera angles just felt low budget-esque in LAT.

the way eternity looked plus the in script logic that "he has to do whatever you ask him to do"
together quite a departure from marvel comics :picard:

I feel like the MCU shows should be condensed into movies to avoid overspending and include important characters to stay relevant. WandaVision and Ms. Marvel could've been part of avengers movies. Black widow should've been done with Punisher and Fury. She Hulk should've been a Hulk and She Hulk movie.
