Has any other franchise ever traded their young superstar player without the player asking/forcing a move before or is this a 1st

Chris Webber wasn’t a superstar but his departure was similarly terrible from DC to Sacramento.

They’d just made the playoff, which is basically a chip in DC. The only difference is we knew there were off the court issues. Bullets made the decision to break up him and Juwan. And then ended up losing Juwan too.

I would actually compare this to James Harden on the Thunder after they just had that Finals run….. but worst because at least the Thunder kept Durant and Westbrook.

Harden isn’t comparable either. He was still coming off of the bench then even though his future was obviously bright.

Luka is in the best player in the league argument, coming off of carrying them to the Finals, and has been the guy from the beginning. The Harden trade isn’t even close to comparable.

This is like if the Cavs traded LeBron in the offseason before the Decision.

Nope that’s why I made a thread about it, mavs new ownership and gm aren’t basketball guys they’re business and logistics guys all the way through they saw Luka as a product that wasn’t getting the results they wanted and shipped him out, no strong arming asking his destinations or nothing because they didn’t have any ties to him he was Cuban’s guy

They just showed 31 other teams in the league that you in fact CAN do this and fundamentally changed the game

While he was an unknown and I don't think this question applies to him, he was still the #3 overall pick. I don't think he was meant to be a role player for the rest of his career.

A superstar must meet certain criteria while still being in their peak (hence there are vets who use to be superstars see Jordan at the wizards)

popularity i.e fame,shoe and jersey sales,peak brand endorsement etc

reputation i.e face of the league or consistently regarded as top 5 players in the league for multiple seasons

Accolades/body of work-this is self explanatory

the late 90's - early 2000's superstars were shaq,Kobe,Iverson,Duncan and KG

late 2000's superstars- Lebron,Kobe,wade,Duncan,Dirk

2010's Lebron, KD,steph,Harden,Kawhi

ironically the closest we have seen to Luka situation was Nola trading AD but He wasn't a superstar despite his stats/talent
