Finger crossed Chiewetel gets that defining role that puts him over into leading role. Out of all the "up and coming" black actors i think he has the best chance to emulate Denzel.

i like him that dude that was in 4 brothers right :obama:

For those that asked or stated...

Derek Luke's last big screen appearance to my knowledge was a small role in Captain America.

Chiwetel won't be the next Denzel. That's already lined up for Idris Elba.
Both are about equally deserving tho.

Mackie must be doing something right in order for him being a black actor to have survived in a horror themed action flick (Vampire Lincoln: Abraham Hunter). He even got some action parts in the movie and had much on-screen time for a lower level supporting role.

Isaiah got his fame off tv though, his roles in movies haven't been that great. Don Cheadle is an A lister- high B lister talent most definitely but he's not on Will Smith's or Denzel's level though. That's the only reason I said Mackie could maybe reach the level of Cheadle. Cheadle hasn't had that many leads himself but he's definitely a Superior talent than Mackie and he really knows how to pick good roles that showcase his broad talent range

I guess we have to create a new tier for Mackie....or put him in the Chiwetel's level.

In all fairness, very few ever reach the level of a Denzel, Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Deniro, Pacino..that top stratosphere of actor-ism. Everyone else sort of coasts. Now if Derek Luke picked better roles, he'd be on his way but he doesn't so....

very very very few reach that superstar level.. that's why I'm not mad at Mackie. only a small fraction even reach his level of success black or white. and as for Derek Luke- he probably doesn't have a lot of roles come his way. Whatever he gets he takes it. I wish my dude Bookim Woodbine was getting more work

Anthony Mackie is good people's.

Check this answer he gave about being an Actor Vs. A movie star

Question: Do you have any advice for aspiring actors?

AM: Oh, this is the question. Do I have any advice for aspiring actors? My advice is this, you have to be deathly honest with yourself if you want to be a working actor or if you want to be a movie star, and those are two completely different things. I went to school for 12 years before I had my first paycheck. I sacrificed a lot. I went away every summer to summer actor school. I left home at 16 to go away to acting boarding school and I never went back home until I was 22. I sacrificed a lot.--prom, friends, everything. So you have to decide what you want to be.

If you want to be a movie star, as soon as your feet hit the concrete go to L.A. and become a movie star, but you have to realize the shortcomings that come with that, because not everybody is a movie star, and most of the people that are movie stars aren’t movie stars. Now a working actor, that’s something different. I went to the theater, because I admired people like Morgan Freeman, Don Cheadle, Jeffrey Wright, a lot of people who’s names you wouldn’t recognize, but when you see them you’re like, “Oh him.”

Like Robert Patrick, the dude who played the old cowboy in this movie. Robert Patrick has been in the game 25-30 years. He has done over a 120 movies, not counting TV. So I’m like wow, that’s a working actor. That dude is working. “You’ve got two lines, $25, and per diem? I’m there.” That’s a working actor. I thought when I got out of school that I would be doing a play in Poughkeepsie or here at the Goodman until I was 40 years old and somebody would see me and be like, “Let’s put that guy in the movie.” Then all of a sudden everyone would be like, “Where have you been for the past 20 years?”

I never thought I would have this amount of success at the beginning of my career, and that’s why in my career I’ve been on Broadway three times, I’ve been off-Broadway five times. I’ve done more independent films than studio films, and I’m not saying that to brag; I’m saying that to say that I like to be considered a working actor as opposed to a movie star. If you want to be a movie star, there’s nothing wrong with that. Don’t let them tell you nothing different. Go out there and do what you’ve got to do, but just know there are certain shortcomings that go with that and certain sacrifices you’ve got to make. I wasn’t willing to make those.

The H
glad somebody has brought this up. And he usually plays the same role. It seems like he just takes any role he can get. In alot of them, his character lacks charisma. Sorry, but you a black man in Hollywood, there better be something about you that stands out. It's like he just plays the normal black friend. Nothing interesting. That's not gonna get you leading roles. Look at Denzel and Sam, when they're on your screen, they command your attention. They have charisma. Both their voices are distinct kind off. Will Smith also very well has all of this.

He did very well in Hurt Locker, but Jeremy Renner was the star of the movie because he played the more interesting and charismatic character.

i dont think u know what charisma is..

dude is a fukking actor..he follows the script
if the role he is playing has no charisma, what the fukk is he supposed to do?

But mostly in a supprtin supportin supportin supportin role. Then theres the co-lead in the straight to dvd movies, and the odd appearence here and there in tv shows for one ep. Since The Rock hes stayed in the same role and hasnt moved up.

Most feel that he's lucky enough as is to be getting those supporting the supporting supporting actor's role for his level of "talent".
