That's the thing though, as long as Romney refuses to release his tax returns, Reid and the Dems can basically say whatever they want with no consequences. :lolbron:

Either he releases the tax returns or they can start all kinds of rumors that may or may not be true. Politics at its funniest.

That's what I don't understand tho.

Shouldn't the IRS be able to sort this out in a few hours? That is, he shouldn't have to release his tax returns, the IRS needs to do their job and validate the claim. If true, then he gets arrested, if not, then we probably won't hear anything about this again.

Yea but they can't release his info

And if he was evading they would have went after him already
The source has been confirmed by CNN. :leon: Harry Reid is a motherfukker. He's not backing down...

Daily Kos: CNN's Dana Bash: Her source can confirm Reid's Romney tax allegation (Update X3)

“There is a controversy because the Republican presidential nominee, Governor Mitt Romney, refuses to release his tax returns. As I said before, I was told by an extremely credible source that Romney has not paid taxes for ten years. People who make as much money as Mitt Romney have many tricks at their disposal to avoid paying taxes. We already know that Romney has exploited many of these loopholes, stashing his money in secret, overseas accounts in places like Switzerland and the Cayman Islands.

“Last weekend, Governor Romney promised that he would check his tax returns and let the American people know whether he ever paid a rate lower than 13.9 percent. One day later, his campaign raced to say he had no intention of putting out any further information.

“When it comes to answering the legitimate questions the American people have about whether he avoided paying his fair share in taxes or why he opened a Swiss bank account, Romney has shut up. But as a presidential candidate, it’s his obligation to put up, and release several years’ worth of tax returns just like nominees of both parties have done for decades.

“It’s clear Romney is hiding something, and the American people deserve to know what it is. Whatever Romney’s hiding probably speaks volumes about how he would approach issues that directly impact middle-class families, like tax reform and the economy. When you are running for president, you should be an open book.

“I understand Romney is concerned that many people, Democrats and Republicans, have been calling on him to release his tax returns. He has so far refused. There is only one thing he can do to clear this up, and that’s release his tax returns.” http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/...

There is just something off about dude, its clear he's never truly been held accountable for anything or really had to answer for anything he's done

Still though, I really hope Reid has something.... I was just watching Daily Show, apparently Reid said Romney's dad wouldn't be proud of him. Dude has a personal grudge that might go beyond reason... and this play up to populist rage + general tax law ignorance is a great way to smear dude w/o having anything of substance

The :obama: team probably got the scoop and gave it to Reid at the point man, so as not to be looked at as petty. Well played move.

I can't believe how Romney and his people went all hard back at it today. Unless he's going to release the returns, he just try to dismiss it and change the subject and hope it blows over. Firing back angrily just highlights his secrecy more and keeps it in the news cycle. He has some dumb people running his campaign.

So whats the endgame with this? Are they trying to get him to quit or something? Some of this sh1t sounds criminal. Wesley Snipes went to jail for less. :beli:

Obama and co should prefer running against this awkward bastid rather than someone more charismatic.

I am pretty sure that Mitt Romney is not going to release anymore of his tax returns during this campaign. Personally I don't give a fukk...I know Romney is filthy rich, I understand why his tax rate is what it is and I just assume that a dude with his type of money probably has people wotrking for him to find every tax loophole that exists. So pointing out that Mitt has a shytload of money and may be gaming the tax system does nothing to sway me at all since I already assumed that all rich people were doing that anyway. You want to impress me? Make this tax conversation about fixing the shytty tax code that makes it possible for rich a$$holes like Mitt to do the things I assume he is doing. Otherwise it is just a distraction from having to actually put forth a plan that will address issues that are really affecting the vast majority of voters in this country.

I do have an issue with the Senate Majority Leader going on the Senate floor and making baseless statements like he works for Media Takeout. If this is how the game is going to be played then what will stop John Boehner from going before Congress and saying he had a phone conversation with a high ranking White House staff member who told him that President Obama himself personally leaked top secret intelligence information just to make him look good as oart of his presidential campaign.
And when pressed on it all Boehner has to say is "if Obama wants to prove me wrong then he needs to release all WH phone logs complete with transcripts otherwise he is basically admitting that he is guilty".
